Some times the merchandisers or the shelf man might rotate the old stocks ( not follow FIFO basis ) or not properly stored in a cool temperature etc., are the few reasons. But the general rule is any food item which has short shelf life ( less than 3 months ) should not be displayed / stored. It is better do not buy items that has very short life.
