Furniture is more expensive here if you buy new, there's no Ikea or eqivilent. However, coming from the UK, you will notice the cost of living is less in many ways, petrol, fresh food etc. Even though alcohol has 100 per cent tax, it's still the same as home prices pretty much. When MegaMart was open groceries were more expensive for us as we mainly bought UK foods but now, shopping at Carrefour it's a bit cheaper and much fresher than Tesco at home. I know that lots of people find it expensive here but I think that the English find it better because of the tax free salary and because the UK cost of living is far higher than most other places.  Cars are also cheaper, our Subaru Forrester was 10,000 pounds new for the top model, at home would have been 23,000! Good luck
