Many years ago, when we were working in Iraq, we were the minority 'Brits' with a German Contractor. The project was at an early stage and there weren't many of us there, so I invited 3 or 4 of the batchelors to have Christmas Lunch with us.

British tradition is to listen to the Queen's Speech which is broadcast on the World Service around 2.00 p.m.

We were put to shame, when the UK National Anthem kicked off, by the lone German present who immediately got to his feet and stood to attention before we could put our drinks down!

I was very impressed by his courtesy. Needless to say, we all scrambled to our feet also :D
