I have always found the way to drift off to sleep is to maybe read a book, try to do a crossword puzzle or watch something you're not particularly interested in on TV (if you have one in your bedroom).

Basically, any of these activities embarked upon when prostrate in bed tends to take your mind off whatever is keeping your brain alive and thus sleep takes over.

**Just one tip: Use a pencil, if it's the crossword method, cos otherwise you tend to scribble on the sheets as you doze off and biro ink is the devil to get off of linen.
