My answer to you is.....come visit us in bloody Norway!
We've just been offered jobs in QA and we'll be getting paid just about the same as we are here. This is what we pay
1. one month's groceries for a family of 4 (two 4 year olds not even teenagers!) US$ 1400
2. One litre of gas US$2.20
3. One half litre of crappy beer US$10
4. Pair of women's trousers US$55-80
5. Kilo of apples US$5.50
6. Budget for electricity for one month US$350
7. Cost of a yearly service for our car US$1200
Shall I go on? Our 1600cc, normal family saloon with 78,000 km on the clock, 1998, cost US$13,000 in 2004!!
8. Women's haircut with root tint US$220

Man, we are so used to lean living, Qatar will seem like the last word in opulence. I get my hair cut once a year in the US or the UK (and boy, the UK's expensive since I left too!) and although I can afford it, I just will not pay $200 to get a haircut.

Live simple! Can't wait to get there in August - hot weather?? BRING IT ON! I have had 4 years of snow, rain and 6 hours of daylight so as far as I'm concerned a day in the sun is worth a thousand dollars!!

Peace XXXXXXX
