It's set in WW2 France and there is an English spy posing as a gendarme. His French is tangled up English. So, for instance, he would say:
"Good moaning .. 'ow is your feather's dag. It has very bog arse". Meaning, "Good morning .. how is your father's dog. It has very big ears"
