if I've no idea who the person is or have never even exchanged any posts in the forum with them.

I usually click on their ID, too, and hit 'track'. That way I get a good idea of what they are about etc.

I don't really WANT a huge buddy list anyway. A buddy is supposed to be someone you know fairly well, not just a 'one off' poster.
