Well, I miss my car, which was my independance.... Having to try and catch cabs that are almost non existant is really frustrating.... With the result, I don't go out much after hours as just finding one home after work is enough to make even a nun swear... :-)....
I miss my huge house that I shared with my friends... it had a big garden 3 000sq metres, with a pool, and room for my GSD to run..... Speaking of which, I miss my boy.... I have decided to rehome him with friends back in S A as it would not have been fair on him to come here to the apartment that I live in and only be walked 3 times during the day, and be alone all day while I am at work.... I really, really miss him :-(
Coming from Johannesburg... I miss not having about 400 malls and shopping complexes to choose from when I go shopping.... City Center is wonderful... but you can only walk around from shop to shop so many times....
I come from a culture of having domestic workers in our homes from the time we are small, so that is not an issue for me... Here I have a cleaner once a week.... one thing I have noticed is that they are not as efficient as the staff back home, but he does save me using my one day off, dusting, sweeping and mopping....
Service.... oh to go to a restuarant and get my drink before my food.... or to actually have the table cleared when i am finished with my meal, without sitting there for the rest of my stay, pushing plates around and out of the way.... This is seriously lacking in this part of the world....
What I love about Qatar.... The friendliness of everyone... (sometimes over friendly, but hey, can deal with it).... being able to walk in the streets at night and feel totally safe.... leaving my apartment open when I pop next door to visit a friend and knowing that I will come back to all my belongings.... Meeting new friends.... (from QL and other places).... The desert.... The sea...... Seeing Hummers on a daily basis (lol....)
How has it changed me? Well, give me a few more months... and I will probably be able to answer that one in more detail....
and what I love about the country....?
