It looks like the only way you can get through the driving test here is to take the course, which costs a couple of thousand, and do exactly what they instruct you to do. I have heard of loads of people who have to take it multiple times before they are allowed to pass. i say 'allowed', as it seems patently obvious that its a matter of whether they like you or not, and it suits them to have repeat customers.
