Dear Han19
Thanks so much for being the first to post the first question. I appreciate your desire to have more knowledge and information Islam and Muslims.
I believe the link sister Aisha has posted has more information than I could describe, however regarding your question about dreams in Islam.
Actually, as the Quraan tells, about prophet Joseph, whom allah gifted him the ability to explain and interpret the dreams("Ru'yaa").
Islamic scholars have divided people's dreams to 3 kinds of dreams As follows:
1-Ru'yaa - visions (dreams)
2-Hulum - bad dreams
3-Dreams from one's self
According to the following Hadith:
Abu-Hurayrah narrated Prophet Muhammad (S) said, "There are three types of dreams: a righteous dream which is glad tidings from Allah, the dream which causes sadness is from Shaitan, and a dream from the ramblings of the mind."
A lot of people thought all their dreams is the first kind of these dreams (Ru’yaa) and try hard to find out what was the dream meaning or pointed out…however these kinds of dreams are very rare and require special things from you…like to be virtuous before going to sleep and the time of dreaming should be between the dawn and the sunrise…not after sunrise..
Some Muslims scholars do not like people to leave their life and go after the future via dreams and be concerned about dreams and try to explain it as it would not affect your future…
For example, if even I see the first kind of dreams which is a “Ru’yaa” and feel that something bad will happen to me, what should I do to prevent it…?
Simply, you have nothing to do, because first of all Muslims believe that everything is done by Allah’s will and wishes.
For this, a lot of Muslims as far as I know (especially men) do not pay attention to their dreams; on the other hand you may find some Muslims (almost females) are very concerned about dreams and what the future brings for them…
I hope I success to explain the concept, if you have any vague point about my explanation let me know, please.
Regards,
