While I agree that it's all relative it does not negate the actual cost of living in Doha. I know employees from Syria and Jordan on 7000 who bitterly complain about their salaries. Economies in places like Egypt and Syria are not what they used to be.
Don't forget about the schools and while Arabic schools are cheaper some have already started emulating Western schools by levying what they call a "capital charge".
Hence my recommendation but at least these guys get various perspectives and can make their own decisions.
