They aren't getting away with it in Turkey anymore, so thats a start, and most of the major clerics of said it must stop. Also it's not rampant throughout the whole of Muslim society. I can blame Islam and Islamic society for not doing more to prevent these honour killing, and I do, but I can't blame Islam for the honour killings.

If you look at Somalia and other African countries, women have been mutilated for years and are not protected under their governments, or even if you look at many African countries, women aren't protected from rape or abuse. There are even cases in the United States were fundamentalist Christian families have abused their daughters or wives for supposed infidelity and even rape. (However, the laws are a bit better to protect them from murder, and if they are caught they are usually charged).

All of the worlds relgions and governments need to do more to protect women, not just Islam.
