I agree dentist, its not USUALLY a problem and its unlikely that the police will kick your door down in the middle of the night to arrest you for illicit toe sucking, or whatever article of law you have broken. However, it is still an offence and could be used against you maliciously. I had a friend in the UAE who had been living quite happily with his girlfriend for years. One day he got into some argument with a work colleague and the next day the police were knocking on his door to arrest him for living with his girlfriend. Granted, he eventually was let go but they had to live separately after that. he swears blind that his work colleague reported him.
So, although you wont be lynched from the nearest palm tree, it can lead to problems which are avoidable.
