Qatar Airways expands Africa network with increased frequencies

Qatar Airways (QA), which has been consistently recognized as the world’s best airline and has served as the largest international carrier during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to expand its Africa network.
With its unparalleled knowledge of global passenger flows and booking trends, the airline said it will now operate more than 100 weekly flights to and from 23 destinations in Africa.
As it gradually rebuilds its Africa network, QA said it will increase frequencies to the following destinations:
- Alexandria (two weekly flights resumed January 25)
- Cairo (up to 16 weekly flights resumed January 18)
- Cape Town (increasing to five weekly flights from February 1)
- Casablanca (increased to five weekly flights from January 21)
- Durban (increasing to three weekly flights from February 14)
- Johannesburg (increasing to 18 weekly flights from January 26)
- Maputo (increasing to three weekly flights from February 14)

“We are proud to be the leading international carrier connecting Africa with Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and the U.S., offering more flexible travel options and a global network of flights that passengers, trade and business partners can rely on,” QA Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said.
“Having launched three new destinations in Africa with Abuja, Accra and Luanda joining our network in 2020, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to the region by adding new routes and steadily increasing frequencies across the continent,” he added.
“As global travel recovers in 2021, we look forward to further expanding our network and offering more connections to and from Africa,” the GCEO highlighted.
QA has been steadily rebuilding its network, which comprises over 120 destinations as of now.
The national carrier plans to increase the number of destinations to more than 130 by the end of March this year. Many cities will be served with a strong schedule with daily or more frequencies.
Recently, QA was recognized as the first global airline in the world to secure a prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by Skytrax.
The accomplishment follows HIA’s win as the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to get a Skytrax 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating.
QA also achieved the Diamond Standard in the Airline Passenger Experience Association’s (APEX) Health Safety Powered by SimpliFlying audit earlier this month.
With more frequencies being added to key hubs, the airline offers unrivaled connectivity to passengers, making it easy for them to change their travel dates or destination if they need to.
