Awesome places to visit that aren't too far from Qatar
One of the nicest things about moving to Qatar is that you are now centrally located in the globe. Europe, Africa, and all of Asia are easy to access. Coming from North America, this is like winning the travel lottery.
The hours of travel from Toronto to Singapore can be a deterrent for those who want a relaxing vacation. No one would want to lose days of their vacation, spend over 24 hours just getting to a travel destination, dealing with the travel jet-lag, etcera.
Granted, people in Canada travel everywhere all of the time… I (and many people like me) just can’t be bothered.
Here are some awesome places to check out that aren’t too far from Qatar.
Dubai
It’s funny, EVERYONE reading this will scoff. Why? Because you are in Qatar and likely have already been here – many many times. Dubai is a great vacation place for families.
Tons to do for kids, from waterparks, aquariums, zoos, indoor ski hills. My family and I love it. (Honestly, I think I just convinced myself to go this weekend with the kids while typing this #holysmokes) [Photo courtesy: Claus Kjærsgaard]
Oman
This is a country full of culture, tradition, history and wonder. There is a city called Salalah that has great weather during our heat stroke summer months... Dohans take note! [Photo courtesy: Hussain Yafaei]
Phuket – Phi Phi Islands
Honestly, I am soooooooo grateful to have had the chance to travel here. This was literally one of the most beautiful places I have seen on the planet!
It’s a 6 hour direct flight on Qatar Airways! The people are super fabulous here too, both Thais and other tourists. Just a friendly warm vibe all around. [Photo courtesy: ney zhar]
Jordan – Petra
Imagine going to visit a historical city thousands of years old built into stone. And… the entire city is red, all of the stone is red, the sand is red. Incredible experience and very budget friendly.

Turkey – Istanbul
This is the ONLY place in Europe that I have travelled back to more than once (currently at 3 times!). You can get a great hotel for less than $100/night, weather is awesome, food is amazing (never a disappointment), and beautiful plush cats running around everywhere.
What is there not to love? The cultural sites are also well-perserved and absolutely beautiful! (It’s mildly ridiculous that the historical sites are mentioned after the cats – but I am who I am). [Photo courtesy: omnianthony]
You’re in Qatar, part of enjoying it to the fullest is also enjoying the region and a couple of super cool places that aren’t too far. Happy travels!
Any that I missed? I would love to hear about them and hopefully see them one day.

Location in Jakarta, ticket only near about QR 100 and you can play almost all the game
You have forgotten the International Space Station. 6 days cost only 30 million US$.
Dozens of places are missed... Maldives, Malaysia, Indinesia, India, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Egypt, entire eastern and Western Europe - they are all beautiful and unique...
However, one needs 20-25 hours to travel from Qatar to North and South America ;) Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Las Vegas, L.A., Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Cuba, Mexica, Bahamas, Hawaii, and much more - all these are great vacation destinations too :):)
Britexpat... You and your Cuban shotputter... Lol.. You can never forget her.. ;)
Kashmir should be on the list. One of the best places in South Asia.
Nairobi, Kenya: Amazing national parks and wildlife experiences
Mombasa, Kenya: Beautiful beaches and nice people.
Why isn't Havana on there..I could visit my Cuban Shotputter
Thank you for the info! All these places are worth visiting.
