Weather is hot for Qatar 2022 World Cup bid
Did you read this news?

i agree with linc,
I think its more about human rights and cultural issues rather than the weather issue. E.g. European girls are liberated, act wild, and dress less, so how they would do that here in Qatar...
players and visitors tend to be too emotional with the games, they tend to curse, act wild and crazy as well.. so does it mean, they could get 7-year imprisonment?
just my cents...
All publicity is good publicity remember...... Still today most of the world has not heard of Qatar, but by presenting this bid it makes the world ask the question where is qatar and who are they? Plus they do make good adverts and the stadiums if built look futuristic.... so its a PR exercise.
XceptionalGreat can you explain your quote "Qatar can be a much better host than any other developed Country"...after reading that piece I have never laughed so much in my life!!
Qatar get it and then turn the world cup final into "family day"! :-)
hahahaha publicity yes but not the good kind!!! Qatar you are out of your depth competing with established civalised nations.....I have yet to hear one valid reason why Qatar deserve this bid over other nations!
@Flan - we are realists my friend....plus anyone with half an ounce of common sense knows Qatar don't stand a chance!
exiledsaint--how is rejection good publicity?
This bid is a trial run. They know they won't sucres but it brings lots of publicity for Qatar
ah raven, why is it all so clear to us....and only us.
a valid point Flan....also the debacle that was the Asian Games Football Final in 2006...locals turning up without tickets and been granted entry, then fans who had purchased tickets refused entry because the locals had taken the seats.....another good reason to give the bid to Qatar!....
bunnyhop, to run any event one must learn to count how many seats are in a stadium and a ticket does in fact guarantee entry.
the muppets that run football and marketing here can't even get these 2 basics correct.
Dream on BunnyHop, if you think Qatar can deliver what they are promising you are deluded...their slogan "Expect Amazing" is a joke, more like "expect mediocrity"....of course we all know that we have to believe everything the Qatar authorities tell us is true and will happen!! Yeah Right!!!!
How about before you blog. A little research please. The stadiums, the transportation, the fan fest zones and the walking routes between will all be sustainably cooled. all your other objections are covered off also! See their website and read up people!
Raven..
Pigs are not allowed to fly in Doha, otherwise nothing is impossible :-)
Anyways, 5 more months to go..everything will be clear.. & I hope Qatar's success to host 2022 World Cup shall be a good answer to all questions !!
XceptionalGreat pigs will fly in Doha before Qatar wins the bid, what fan in their right mind would come here and melt in the 45-50 degree heat, summer's one thing but this heat is ridiclus....even the locals can't stand it and head off on holiday for 2 months....
qatar has no chance. australia will win the rights.
me thinks the hot weather is affecting peoples ability to think logically & rationally.
LostInSpace & Raven,
Guys, that's just the second option which you are talking about..if it's no way possible for FIFA to organize it in Winters, let's support Qatar's bid for summers itself !!
Must admit it was in a seedy area though! :0P
hahaha some place can be pricey but 36QR for a pint at the Irish, I've never paid 15 bucks for a pint in Sydney!
Dont know about the reasonable price of drinks! Drinking in Sydney was like getting mugged in broad daylight! :-)
XceptionalGreat firstly I admire your enthusasim (excuse the spelling) for the qatar bid, but do you honestly believe that FIFA will interupt the EPL, the Spanish Italian and german Leagues just to give Qatar a special wavor? You have got to be kidding mate. Tell me something, it is already on record that by 2022 Qatar will have 110,000 Hotel rooms and apts, of which FIFA have already been allocated 90,000. You do the maths mate, SA had approx 500,000 fans go thru in the month long WC...sorry Qatar you wouldn't be ready to host a WC in 50 years time let alone 12....I for one think Australia will win the bid, they have hosted the 2000 Olympics, 2003 Rugby WC, have a temperate climate, great infrastructure, plenty of diverse activities for fans to do, and can get a drink at a reasonable price...
"If FIFA or other countries are so much concerned about the Climate of Qatar, why don't they propose to organize it in Winters as a very special case for this region, in order to appreciate the overwhelming support FIFA has been receiving from this region for many many years".
Are you serious?? Do you expect all european league's to re-arrange their schedule so that Qatar can host the world cup?? Im pretty sure that no matter how much "bung" money Qatar has it does not have enough to buy the sponsors of the biggest league's in the world.
Its not about the climate, its the culture and the country that would not embrace the spirit of the greatest sporting event in the world.
And where do you get your "millions" of people living in Qatar from?? :-)
My Dear Friends,
Please keep in mind that the Bid is for 2022 and Qatar has 12 years to get ready for this great event.. you can simply expect amazing !!
There is no dearth of money with Qatar govt.
Excellent Metro Network, Dedicated Bus Routes, Shopping Malls, Hotels, Luxury Villas/Apartments, Causeway to Bahrain, NDIA, Energy City, some other man-made Islands, Many Waterfront Projects, Stadia, Five Star Hospitals, Health Clinics, Heart of Doha, GCC metro rail network which will connect Doha with Dubai/Bahrain where the tourist can enjoy like any western country..and many more projects.
Regarding high temperature in Qatar, it not due to any artificial reason..but it's all about mother nature.
Teams can play matches and spectators can view & enjoy the matches safely in a controlled temperature.
As far as outings are concerned, if the tourist can visit some places with minus (-)15 degree just to enjoy the nature then they can give a try to 40-45 degree temp. tooo.
Afterall the residents of Qatar are also human beings like the residents of Australia, Germany, South Africa etc.. millions of expatriates and Qataris are living in Qatar and also go for outings even in this summer, we also go for shopping.. we also go to beaches..pools, etc.
On the other hand, World Cup is an international event, which belongs to the World and not only to certain Countries with colder climate.
There are millions of die-hard fans of Football in this part of world (GCC) and the natives of these countries have every right to host this great event. If FIFA or other countries are so much concerned about the Climate of Qatar, why don't they propose to organize it in Winters as a very special case for this region, in order to appreciate the overwhelming support FIFA has been receiving from this region for many many years.
It's not about weather.. it's about if you really support Qatar's bid or any non-Qatari bid. 'Weather' should not be the sole reason to disqualify Qatar !!
Also, I am failed to understand as to why don't people take this bid positively, as the special attention of international media due to FIFA 2022 may compell the govt. to consider more labor reforms and improve the overall living standard of any ordinary resident.
Planting trees here is the worst thing you can do. Think of the enviromental damage. Tress need water and lots of it...
Holy s***, when I woke up this morning, I felt like I was burning in the hell, tell you the truth, man this country is extremely hot, not just hot…
So what I am saying is “please don’t stop the music, but just stop thinking about the 2022 BID or whatever, QATAR gets some greenery if you could??? Not gonna work thou
Leave weather a side.........
first & foremost a Qatar cannot host a free & open event like W/C, as 90% fans are gonna be from around the world, specially europian lady football fans, obviously they are not gonna wear Burka/Abaya & come to watch a football match, they will come with a basic sleeveless t-shirt with a short mini shirt or a short….probably carry couple of bears…… (Am sure all of us have witness this) Can Qatar allow this kind of a behavior?

This place is too hot to live in at the moment. People who spend their entire day in air conditioned rooms should step out for a couple of hours to feel it. It's like a huge fire is burning outside.
Had this conversation the other day at work, as they were all convinced that Doha had all but got the games. For the sake of Doha, I wish them good luck, but to be perfectly honest, if they do, they will have had to bribe many people at an obscene level.
Cooled stadiums aside, everything else is red hot. Not much point in a cooled stadium if the punter dies of heat stroke in the traffic jam getting there. Secondly, and more importantingly, you really think that FIFA will want to give an automatic spot in the WC to a team such as Qatar? Honestly? Not a hope in Hades. I may be biased, as I am Australian, but if they beat the Sydney bid, there is something seriously wrong.
XceptionalGreat - if cooling system is built only for stadium ...what about other places? if the tourists come to watch football...they dont just spend time in stadium itself...they would obviously like to look around qatar...which is not possible at this heat climate..
Qatar may win the bid (but I doubt it). More worrying is what happens if Qatar does host the world cup. Can anyone seriously imagine it being a great success as people around the world flood into this place?
The traffic sprawl will be horrendous. Tens of thousands suffer heatstroke and overwhelm the already overwhelmed Hamad. Tens of thousands more break the various pedantic laws governing social behavior--no alcohol, dress codes for women, and the crazy idea that single non-white males should be able to use malls on Fridays. Their aren't enough police to arrest everyone and not enough jails to hold them. Then when a bunch of tourists get frustrated with the place and say something bad about Islamic Arabic countries they will get his with seven-year blasphemy sentences. And for how long to you think European football hooligans will tolerate some idiot in a thobe treating them like second-class human beings before they cause him serious physical harm? And the world comes with serious exposure. Is Qatar prepared for the international scrutiny of its laws and institutions that comes with the extensive media coverage? The human trafficking, mistreatment of workers, obscene rich-poor gap, etc. is going to get a lot of attention from journalists while they are here and there is nothing the government can do to stop the bad publicity.
come on qatar....start planting trees......dont waste all money on sports only.....plant trees...
Insh'Allah Exiled :-)
God will make it cool
were the least attended games in history! you call that success? The England V Brazil game was a case in point - no atmosphere, no fun and no alcohol! Never in a million years will Qatar get the WC.

XceptionalGreat,
You are right that Qatar can build that type of stadiums but think about beaches, shopping, outdoor activities, places to visit, etc.. They can't install cooling system everywhere....
They have to request Fifa to change the hosting months... Qatar hosted Asian games in winter/spring but summers are impossible over here....
well just today after this extreme heat stroke i was thinking the same, Qatar is not near to host World Cup 2022, not because of its resources, but because of this hell. Millions of football lovers all around the world come to this event, and they will run back in a day with this crazy heat, south africa's average temperature was around 15C during 2010 WC, so forget about a world cup in 60C...nothing but a joke to me
Dubai is unable to clear its debt.. how could it even imagine of hosting such a billion dollars event..
As far as discrimination is concerned, it happens everywhere in the World... South Africa is the greatest example itself..where Nelson Mandela spent 30 years of his life in a jail !!
You will hardly find a non-white guy in South Africa Cricket team..
.. France... Germany... so-called great nations of the world !!
Dear Qatar living fens,
Be sure what you have been writing that no other middle east country can host such a big event. In my experience you cant compare Dubai with Qatar in anything.Thats it.
In Short "Sports for all". The way they discriminate in Souq market for watching worldcup was ridiculous. Now just imagine if this mentality can held worldcup in 2022?
FYI, Qatar is proposing to build the stadia applying a great state-of-the-art-technology, by which there shall be no requirement to cover the stadium.. but the stadium will remain outdoor but with a controlled temperature as per the standards of FIFA..
IMHO, Qatar can do it.. Qatar can be a much better host than any other developed Country..
Keeping in view the enthusiasm of Football among Arabic speaking countries, one of them deserves to host the World Cup.. & Qatar can mobilize the largest no. of resources to succefully organize the event.
In fact, other Middle Eastern/Arabic speaking nations should whole-heartedly support the bid of Qatar openly...keeping aside their personal grudges.
If not Qatar, no other Middle Eastern/Arabic speaking nations can ever organize such a big event in the coming sevaral years !!
Dude! money ain't got nothing to do with nature, flip it off
At the time of Asian games as well.. People were laughing ... But it worked... Money speaks dude.....
Well, I agree, they can build air-conditioned stadiums but people will need to go out for hangout, shopping, tourism; what gonna they do in this hot weather? Can they go for sand dunning? Can they do sun bath? Can they chillout at beaches?
Qatar has think about these things.....
Man, come on, what the h*** are you talking about???
2022 bid for QATAR??? you must be kidding... this is not gonna work dude.
Qatar-Cool is working on that...to keep the weather constant... ;)
cooling systems.... =)
