DOHA, May 16 (QNA) -16 May 2009 - Qatar 2022, bidding to host the first ever FIFA World Cup in the Middle East, today unveiled its vision to unite the Arab world and drive better understanding of the region globally through the world''s biggest sports event.

Describing Qatar as "like a true sportsman" ahead of the Bid''s brand launch in front of a 50,000 sell-out crowd at the Khalifa National Stadium in Doha for the HH Emir Cup Final, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, President of Qatar 2022, said: "The unwavering resolution of the Qatari people and the government - to modernise, to advocate for peace, to build for the future - is like the iron will of an athlete in pursuit of victory.

"Qatar is a land of action and not just promises. It''s what makes us the ideal partner to help FIFA establish with certainty that football, and its virtues, is a tool with which a better future can be built. "Qatar 2022 is a Bid on behalf of the whole region. The first global sports event in the Middle East provides an opportunity for greater understanding and unity between the Arab and Western worlds and can inspire enthusiastic support from football fans young and old across the entire region."

With the world''s fastest-growing economy, highest per capita GDP and experience as host of the 2006 Asian Games as well as the impending 2011 AFC Asian Cup, Qatar plans to host the most state-of-the-art, financially robust and hospitable FIFA World Cup in history.

Hassan Al-Thawadi, CEO of Qatar 2022, said: "Today we are immensely proud to unveil the Qatar 2022 brand, which can become a symbol for hope, understanding and inspiration in the Middle East and around the world. Football transcends cultural barriers; in every sense, it is the world game. "We are serious about winning the right to host the FIFA World Cup in the Arab world for the first time. We are offering FIFA an incredible event, with a tremendous football legacy, but also a legacy for humanity. "Qatar 2022 can be a watershed moment and our job until December 2010 is to use every day to make the dreams of Qataris and the whole Arab world a reality."

About the Qatar 2022 Brandmark: The new Qatar 2022 brandmark artfully combines the concepts of international football and Qatari heritage. The 32 pentagons represent the surface of a football, using colours that reflect the natural heritage of Qatar-warm, luminescent colours of sand and sun which spiral inwards, alongside the azure blues of the sea. The pentagons form roadways leading to Qatar, bringing participant teams from all over the world to compete on the great stage that is the FIFA World Cup.

The brandmark was developed by leading global brand consultancy, FutureBrand, part of the Interpublic Group of Companies.(QNA)

Salahib,

I don’t want spoil your illusion but be realistic:

1 - World Cup is always organized in 8 or 9 major cities with FIFA requirements stadiums (very high capacity) and sometimes this is only possible by organizing it in two countries;

2 - World Cup must take place in June/July (due to football normal calendar);

3 - FIFA will nominate the 2022 organizer this December 2010 based on past and actual status of the candidates;

Based on the above basic requirements, Qatar stands close to zero chances because:

1 - Qatar only has one city with one stadium that could receive World Cup games. It is impossible to build from scratch in Qatar, 7 or 8 new major cities with stadiums in 12 years;

2 - With the temperatures in Qatar approaching 50C in June/July, the games can't take place, Air-conditioned stadiums as proposed by Qatar, are seen as Environmental major polluters and therefore not embraced by FIFA;

3 - Doha is a small town with no transport infrastructures. 2006 Asian Games were not that successful. Very poor entertainment, very limited food and beverages for public, very poor parking facilities and road indications, no festivities ambiance and colorful and vibrant celebrations (the local culture is just not like that – opposite from Brazilian culture). It was a chaos and it wasn’t worst because it was the games less attended by overseas visitors.

For all the above, the only way Qatar would be able to gain the 2022 world cup bid, would be if the deciders accept gratuities in exchange of their nomination.

Sorry to spoil the party, but we have to be realistic!

Speed development in Qatar would help to win the bidding, especially Qatar is considered the highest developed country in 2009, even though with the recession, also changes and infrastructure establishment, indicate that they have chances,

logo doesn't look good, needs more work on it

Good luck to Qatar, they work hard for their country,

still enough time to get ready for the event

Probably means there's a good chance. Possibly means we might or we might not.y'all know what it means! It means we're not going to the game.

y'all wanna hear something funny? There was a man who was drowning, and a boat came, and the man on the boat said "Do you need help?" and the man said "God will save me". Then another boat came and he tried to help him, but he said "God will save me", then he drowned and went to Heaven. Then the man told God, "God, why didn't you save me?" and God said "I sent you two boats, you dummy!" lol

Sports means Freedom! Freedom is sports!

The important thing about that 'freedom train', is it's got to climb mountains. We ALL have to climb mountains, you know. Mountains that go way up high, and mountains that go deep and low. Yes, we know we ain't got that in here!!!

Maybe in 2022, Qatar national sport will be Ping Pong, it is just matter of time.

Maybe camel and horse racing will be replaced by Burros racing.

Due to the recession, to save on energy costs, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off.

The country probably doesn't mind, because in Arabic there are no upper and lower case letters. Perhaps to them it's all the same.

By way of comparison every other logo since 1950 has been entirely upper case, with the exception of Argentina in 1978 which used Title Case.

The only similar logo I can think of that uses a lower case letter is for London (london) 2012. But that is a logo that has been compared to Lisa Simpson performing fellatio, a distorted swastika, and described as a "catastrophic mistake".

This is a much nicer logo than London's, although the football does seem to get a bit lost amongst all the other elements.

Unfortunately we will continue to rant over the same things.

Until Qatar decides to the take the advice and use the expertise it keeps paying us expatriates a small fortune to come over here and give them. life would be so much simpler if they heeded the advice they are paying for.

UkEngQatar : Well, maybe like South Africa, Qatar will be the first Arab country to host the world cup. It's not like there are many other options... as tallg said, Qatar has the dosh to make it happen.

Tallg : Actually, I don't mind the logo either. The colours are a bit wishy-washy and the font a bit sad but the concept is nice - the football and mosaic.

lol Qatari.. I can gurantee the hooligans..

On a serious note Qatari. Fifa were looking for the first African country to host the football world cup? The best country they could find was South Africa even though Nigeria in previous years had done well at the Finals.

Now I am all for Qatar to host such an event, but please be realistic. Qatar really struggled with Doha Asian Games in my opinion. Why were they not even short listed for the Olympic 2016 bid.

2022 is still a long way away, I sincerely hope that there will be changes at Grass Root level to see Qatar a successful football playing nation as it's neighbours Iran and Saudi Arabia who have made it to the finals many times in recent years.

The bids along with other factors consider's football at grass root levels. Here they won't even entertain you at Aspire unless you are from the chosen few..

Good luck anyway. At least the tickets will be cheap..

lmao at 'the wave or the shave' (despite the wave being mexican, but what the heck!)

If a country wants a tournament bad enough, and the governing sports body are happy for it to be held there, it will happen. If Qatar want it, they'll need to kiss up to FIFA, which they're already doing well. And they'll need to prove that they'll have the facilities to stage it - and given the growth over the last 13 years, I don't think it will be hard to convince anyone how much they can develop in the next 13. That's what I find most exciting about the bid - seeing how they plan to create several host cities.

I admire the trying factor in this, but I can't see us winning it. we are far beyond ready to do it.

Despite the success Asian Games did couple of years ago, but everything was last minute and lots of money spent to speed the infrastructure, which ended up with low quality buildings, streets, etc.

And I am kind of sure it will happen again if we got this one too.

Not only that, but we don’t have a true Qatari teams in different sports, all of our players mainly football are bought from other countries.

I think it would be great if they did win it. I think it would give the region the boost it needs. The Logo is not that bad. Better, in my opinion, than the British one.

It is long way of and a lot can happen in that time. Only been here a few years and the change is Doha is just amazing.

Who is it so say they can't achieve all that has been said above. Give them time.

Well after what i saw yesterday for the Emir Cup, i really dont think they are up for a World Cup event, it took us over an hour just to get from al waab interchange to the stadium, 20 mins to find parking, and after having 5 tickets with us, we were told that there is "NO MORE PLACE" and the gates were closed. We could clearly see a LOT of people walking out from the stadium.

WTF is that all about you sell people tickets, cant even organize car routes properly, no enough parking for cars they were using villagio's car park and they want to bring in the WORLD CUP lol.

I sincerely hope that Qatar can pull this off. My best wishes are with the organizers.

I am unable to fathom all the negativity coming in from the fellow expats, isn't it a good thing if it happens? there will be more development all around . We should be happy about it, if Qatar grows, we grow with it, if it falters, we would stand to lose as well. So in lieu of continued bouts of negativity, let us all do out two bits to make this a success.

Thousands of fans will descend upon Doha and we expect them to call Karwa 24 hrs before to book a taxi for them to travel from hotel to stadium & sight-see......come on now get real!!!

Or we are expecting them to bring their own cars to Doha ...just like how some locals travel to Europe....on second thoughts that has a better chance to succeed!!!

A fancy logo is not going to cater for 1,000s of fans all looking for affordable accommodation and a beer to wash the dust down, that is if they do not all pass out from the heat, and that is assuming that they have found transport to get them to the matches in the first place.

I guess they will be bidding for the winter olympics or the highland games next!!

I just love that it's factually incorrect.

A football doesn't use 32 pentagons, as stated above.

A standard issue football/soccer ball is made up of 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons.

In case they are confused, pentagons are the things with 5 sides, and hexagons are the things with 6 sides.
