Please can you advise whether Sheik Mohammed's horse got down safely?
Congratulations on a superb and inspirational Opening.
Unfortunately New Zealand TV only showed part of it. It was entrancing. However it was worrying when the horse nearly slipped while going up that incredibly steep ramp to light the flame. Our TV then cut straight to the fireworks so we didn't see whether or not horse & rider managed to get down safely.
Please will someone tell me whether it was okay and if so, how it was managed? We couldn't see how it was going to get back to the ground without sliding horribly and wondered if they had a different ramp or hydraulic lift to bring it down?
Have a wonderful time at your games. Wish I could be there but c'est la vie, I'll watch on TV.
hmm...I understand now...BTW...My name is Tracy...hehe...Cici is the name of my neighbour's dog~~~I love animals~~~hehe... :))
The Gulf Times article was very informative, binodc. I was interested to see that the horse was an Aussi - our next-door neighbours, so to speak.
tracyci - Poppy says they stabled the horse in a soundproof area during the fireworks.Arabian horses have been admired the world over for centuries and their owners famed for valuing them highly & treating them well so I'm sure Poppy's right.
The paper said they it was trained for the task in Sydney so it won;t have been bad for him.
Poppy - I like your photo and guess what - I nearly put the same one on for myself! Mine is hard to see, being small, but is of a kitten smooching a puppy.
Thanks blnoor and novita77. I didn;t notice the rain on the TV screen. It must have made the feat even more difficult.
All the best to you all.
When I watched it on TV, I couldn't breathe. I was so afraid that the horse nearly slipped down. This might scare it...it might have a bad dream. Why can't it hear the noise? Is it bad to him?

Yes horse and rider made it down safely, they did not have to come back down the same ramp....I was also advised that the horse was taken down and stabled in a soundproof area whilst the fireworks went ahead. There was no time for the horse to leave the stadium area before the fireworks so arrangements were made to protect him from the noise. How great is that?
There was no rain during rehearsal ... and it was poured down during the actual ceremony.
Yes both the Horse and the Rider made it to the top and lit the magnificent couldren. The Rider & Horse probably came down on a lift because sure they did not come sliding down the ramp.
