Pakistan wins Women’s Twenty20 Cricket final in Doha
Pakistan beat South Africa in the final of the Qatar International Women’s Cricket Championship on Friday evening in Doha.
The South African team had a tough time with the bat and limped to 68 for nine at the end of their 20 overs.
Only Marizanne Kapp reached double figures in making 40 as all of the Pakistan bowlers bowled effectively.
Asmavia Iqbal and Sania Khan each picked up two wickets, while Nida Dar took one for 15.
They then had little difficulty in knocking off the runs as Javeria Khan hit 38 off 46 balls at the top of the order to be named player of the match.
She added 27 in five overs with fellow opener Nain Abidi (4) and then 17 with Nida Dar (11) and 22 with Bismah Maroof before being bowled by Moseline Daniels with the winning line in sight.
Maroof ended on 14 off 24 balls and was joined by Nahida Khan (2 not out) to complete the win with almost four overs to spare by seven wickets.
Daniels (3-0-13-1) and Sunette Loubser (4-0-14-1) were the South African wicket-takers, while Shabnim Ismail returned miserly figures of 4-2-9-0.
Trisha Chetty was run-out for five by Batool Fatima to bring Kapp to the crease at 13 for two in the sixth over, with captain Mignon du Preez then departing a couple of overs later when she was bowled by Sania Khan for seven.
Shandre Fritz was bowled in the very next over by Nida Dar for a duck before Loubser joined Kapp to add the biggest partnership of the innings - 27 - for the fifth-wicket. Unfortunately, she was caught off Asmavia Iqbal (4-0-14-2) and more wickets tumbled.
Both Nadine Moodley (3) and Suné Luus (1) were run-out, while Ismail handed Sania Khan (4-0-16-2) her second wicket when on just one.
Kapp made it four run-outs in the innings when she found herself beaten by a throw from Nain Abidi off the final ball of the innings.
The Proteas ended on 68 for nine, with Qanita Jalil (2-0-3-0), Sana Mir (4-0-12-0) and Sadia Yousuf (2-0-7-0) supporting their wicket-taking colleagues well.
