you read all the press around the Qatar world cup bid and its so defensive

they talk about how they will work around the heat issue

they talk about how they'll work around the transportation issue

a lot of said is about how they will address concerns

I really think they ought to focus more on the positives like the compactness, culture, first time in the Middle East etc...

or they'll play in to the hands of the naysayers and actually prove the reasons for concerns by legitimizing them

I hope they win the bid, would be good for local businesses

Although inconvenient for the residents in the short run

qatar should bid for the gay olympics, they'd get more interest locally at least.

@ Versi, spot on,typical local journalism eh?!...avoid addressing the real issue...instead say inane things like "fans can wear swimwear by the pool"!!!...gee thanks indeed pilgrim!...we're honoured that you would allow us that privilege,'cos i was packing my scuba suit to take a dip! ROTFL :)...

1) "it will be hot but not too hot"???...what medication is this guy on???...40 degree plus temperature with 80% plus humidity is "not too hot" eh?...excuse my ignorance but what would be considered "too hot"?!...

They're not addressing the issue merely skirting it,so i ask again, air conditioned stadia, training grounds & fan zones around the stadium...what about the rest of the city/country???...

2)the carbon footprint is going to be HUGE,make no mistake about it...air conditioning means emissions & at the scale these guys are planning, that's a LOT...everybody loves using the "green" word these days to be politically correct but where are the cold hard facts to prove their claims?...

I have no doubts whatsoever about Qatar's ability to host the World Cup...just as i wouldn't have a doubt about ANY country that had the ability to spend billions on hosting this tournament thanks to their natural resources so let's keep it real here...what about the heat in the rest of the country???...the World Cup is not about "fan zones"...the whole country has to be a "fan zone"...is that possible?...
