LONDON: Mohamed Bin Hammam of Qatar withdrew his candidacy for the post of FIFA president on Saturday, one day before he is due to face an Ethics Committee hearing into bribery allegations.

Is this a part of last minute efforts to salvage the 2022 World Cup

Its scandalous that in the whole wide world of football and FIFA they could find only two candidates to stand for this election. This guys must have been dividing and sharing the spoils of the windfall until other events got the better of them and the winds of change will blow them both away.

Bin Hammam is guilty of bribery and Platter is not.

To whom the bribery was then?????

both r in the ring of inquiry, mayb they learnt the lesson - 'unity is strength' rather than fall into the quicksand created by their rivalry

This just makes the allegations over the Qatar bid more credible.

spych99 this will only intensify the scrutiny of the 2022 bid.

Think its more of a case that he is taking the fall and letting fifa's "old boys" keep everything the way they like in order to reduce the amount of pressure and inquiry on qatar 2022. Perhaps sebs supporters have given him a deal.

well time (may/ may not) tell of his innocence, but i am not judgmental until declared so.

does it have wider implication, part of an arrangement/ agreement to salvage the world cup

Nic I guess he realised that his Wasta would not work there?

Why would an innocent (if he is) give in just on allegations?!

Good for him, he jumped before he was pushed! Are they going to go after Qatar 2022 bid next?
