terribly misspelled words here in Doha???

halfblindman
By halfblindman

This is not to put Doha in satirical jokes or be the subject of such embarrassment, coz I've seen lots of terribly misspelled sinages, posters, or even reminders. These mistakes may sounds a minor one yet the impression might cause a blemish to the people living in the city. I boarded a bus I saw this tarpaulin ad ...Cheep & readymades; brake the glass in case of emergency;beware of pickpocketing; instead this should be cheap & readymade both in referrence to cheep & w/out "s" for readymade; break for the brake; last one ur giving warning to the pickpockets not to the passengers on board it should be a noun...pickpockets...these are simple ones but we have to proof read or else, all of us will be labelled as bunch of stupid... Ain't playing God all of us has flaws...

Many of the Arabic and English signs are prepared by unskilled Pakistanis... They have excellent calligraphy skills; They know a little Arabic, and a little English, but not enough of any of them.

If you read the notices posted on all the entrance gates of the Land Mark Mall, which mentions the opening and closing times of Mall and Carrefour, it is mentioned as

Sat to Thursday Mall Timings 0800am to 10 PM and Carrefour 0800am to 12PM

Fridays Mall Timings 0800am to 10 PM and Carrefour 1230PM to 12PM

This is what is posted on one of the Large Malls of Qatar and may be having some expat management with high qualifications and may be with from some western origin and drawing a heavy amount every month from the Mall

I love some signs I saw in Doha like the "TAILORE", as well as "AL-ESTIQLAL FOR CHICKEN SELL" ....

Sometimes the translation is just clueless and makes no sense what so ever. from English to Arabic, or Arabic to English, and the most incorrect ones are the signs in Urdu and Arabic. Those are really confusing! This is really important i think it reflects some kind of civilisation, especially in terms of tourism. It is obvious that human errors are common in all aspects of life, but why not be more careful when trying to help or serve people.and try to provide each other with the best knowledge when we can

halfblindman: People who live in glass houses should not cast stones. You spelled a few words wrong in your original post. There is no English word "cuz," except for the slang word for cousin. The correct word is "because." Some people mistakenly use "cause" for "because" and that is also incorrect. You said there are mistakes on signs and called them "sinages." The correct word is "signage," which is already plural so there's no need to add the "s". So unless you are making up a word that addresses the age of someone's sin, it is incorrect. I won't even go into the grammar mistakes and the words you just plain left out. Maybe you should just worry about proofreading your own material first and let the rest of us be entertained by the multi-cutural mesh of languages here in Doha. Besides, there are worse mistakes, and a salon for children by Burger King RA called "Children's Saloon" tops them all!
