Singing Dunes
By Absolutejaguar •
Hello All, and especially to those I met for the first time / again yesterday on the day trip to Fuwairit.
I still have my dad over and we want to go to visit the singing dunes in the next couple of days, is there anyone who would be able to join? and is there anyone who can point me in the right direction? I don't know if it is safe to go alone or how far from the road it is.
For the members of Qatar Living who use GPS the coordinates are 25 02' 29.7" N and 51 24' 38.9" E.
Hope this will be of use.
@ Tallyg :- good description of the route to the Singing Dunes. I was able to reach the spot without any hassles. The Dunes were singing too: :-)
By the way, the distance after the second round about from Wakra is about 22 kms.
Hope this helps the others.
Thanks again people who posted, we drove down there and had a great time, they were singing lovely. The day was hot and it's hard work climbing those Dunes. If QL Social group are going I would recomend an evening when it is a little cooler, also means you can go straight home for a shower or a bath, we got sand everywhere, lol.
I highly recomend going and it's not difficult you can drive on the rocky ground all the way up to the foot of the Dunes.
Thanks a lot guys, especially tallg for the detailed directions, I will post tomorrow if I get there ok, lol.
One other thing - watch out for all the broken glass and empty bottles lying around among all the other rubbish. Unfortunately many people don't treat the area with the respect it deserves.
Perhaps the next QL day out could be a litter-picking trip to the dunes!

LOL! So some thot that Dunes really sings?
I remember one bloke coming back complaining that they didn't sing.
He thought they did it all on their own
Yes, good point dweller!
My Mum found the best way was to slide down on her bum, though I preferred the running method!
We also found that just starting a large sand slide from the top was enough to get them singing.

I believe the current closure of Salwa Road may affect your ability to follow the normal directions to the Singing Sand Dunes, though it may still be possible to get there from that direction.
However, I went last week via Al Wakra which didn't take much longer. Directions as follows;
- Drive to Al Wakra from Doha as normal
- In Al Wakra go RIGHT at the roundabout with the huge shell on it
- Go LEFT at the next roundabout
- Go RIGHT at the next roundabout
- Continue on this road for several kms (you'll pass through the village of Al Wukair)
- Go LEFT at the large roundabout (the road splits into two lanes as you approach this roundabout)
- After ~3.4km take the road on your RIGHT (signed to a QP facility)
- After you cross the bridge over some pipes take the road to your left
- Leave the road just before the 2nd speed bump after the bridge, heading right towards the sand dunes (warning, it's off road so best in a 4x4, otherwise park up and walk)
Enjoy the sand dunes. They were singing better than ever when we were there!

forget that you have to walk down them to get them "singing"
The Singing Sand Dunes is where Dunestock is held, so for some good directions to the place, visit their website:

You don't have to have a 4x4 to get there as long as you don't try to drive up the dunes. The area around them is hard, flat and slightly rocky.
The only problem getting there now is the darn road construction.
I know Alexa went back last month and she might be able to help you with directions...that sounds like fun...hope you both have a great time!
