I've heard there are many luxury resorts in the Islands already. The Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara is supposed to be especially luxuriant. Has anyone here been there?
Anyone who’s taken an afternoon dhow cruise here has likely stopped by Banana Island, some 11km off Doha’s eastern coast, for a swim.
But the 120,000 square meter strip of land has been under construction since the middle of last year, being transformed from a simple umbrella-speckled beach to a “5 star island resort property.”
Banana Island Resort Village, as the project is called by developer UrbaCon General Contracting (UCC), will be filled with 11 luxury waterfront villas, 34 chalets, and a 72-room hotel, according to Hotelier Middle East.
UCC’s Glyn Thomas recently told Construction Week Qatar that they expect the resort to be completed this summer, and that “there will probably be some sort of soft opening between now and the end of the year,” although project completion dates are rarely reached on time in Qatar.
The project falls in line with Qatar’s recent efforts to boost tourism in the country.
What do you think - would you visit when it’s done?

I wonder why all the recreational facilities on Palm Tree Island were demolished, and now at great expense they are building new facilities on Banana Island.
Banana Island was created from the Dredged Material of NDIA same as the Island opposite the Pearl was created from the dredged material from the pearl.
Why there? I have enjoyed many visits to the island, and was under the illusion that it was there for everyone to enjoy. I could be wrong, but it would seem that it is probably going to be out of bounds to casual visitors in future.
On the flip side, the island is man made. So I guess whoever made it must have had a good reason to pop an island right next to a massive new shiny international airport, and this is probably it. In which case, the owners can do what they like with their island. Well there ya go, I have answered my own question.
