Lebanon

Good day, I have a question, I am of African descent and normally get my holiday from work every 2-3months for 2weeks ... Most times I prefer to travel 1 week and go to South Africa the other week. This time I was planning to travel to Lebanon, however a friend of mine from UK who is married to Lebanese lady told me not to go there due to high level of racism. I just want to find out if really that's true from natives and people who lived there for some time, I'd hate to spend money on a trip I couldn't enjoy. Thank you

yes there is racism, not everywhere and not by everyone, but it's there, and more so than you'd normally openly encounter in Europe. I'd say unless you're going with some local friends (in which case a good time is guaranteed) don't bother

OK forget about US, how about "Gulf Countries Council (GCC)" do you trust them!? coz they have announced similar alert to their citizens.

BTW many of my family members are currently in Lebanon, & I just thought of sharing what I felt that might (in some way) help the OP and other visitors.

Osama...well u assuming things and I am an individual and don't need the US to tell me and I don't adhere to US rules...It is cause of indoctrination like tht, imprisons us and I am no slave or prisoner to the US

spy: in fact when a country like US announce such alert, it is understood for all other nationalities not to travel there and avoid that region countries for security reasons (regardless of the racism).

So my point is: I don't advise the OP to go to Lebanon due to the above stated reasons

TRAVEL ALERT:From the U.S. State Department:

The Department of State urges U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to Lebanon because of current safety and security concerns. U.S. citizens living and working in Lebanon should understand that they accept risks in remaining and should carefully consider those risks. This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on May 8, 2012, to emphasize information on security, kidnappings, and an upsurge in violence in Lebanon and the region.

The potential in Lebanon for a spontaneous upsurge in violence remains. Lebanese government authorities are not able to guarantee protection for citizens or visitors to the country should violence erupt suddenly. Access to borders, airports, roads, and seaports can be interrupted with little or no warning. Public demonstrations occur frequently with little warning and have the potential to become violent. Family or neighborhood disputes often escalate quickly and can lead to gunfire or other violence with little or no warning. The ability of U.S. government personnel to reach travelers or provide emergency services may be severely limited. ...

You will be going to the "touristy" places, so shouldn't have any problems.

I'm sure you'll get lots of "attention" from local males.

So go and enjoy yourself.

Come back and tell give us the low down..

Racism comes in different ways, shapes and sizes. In south africa u were classed cause of the colour of your skin, other places u will be frowned on or treated badly cause u a female, colour or religion so, the choice is actually yours whether u wanna b put through that or not. I would say go somewhere else rather than even think of going there if some1 tht close to Leb told u tht...come to New Zealand....hehehehehe
