Try to get the car fully checked up before u go specially tyres cuz in this heat i dont know how long they might survive. Also try to travel in two different cars its always more helpful in case u get lost especially if its the first time.WOW Lebanon,im sure u r going to enjoy it there and BTW let the guys drive not meaning that u dont know but with trucks all around girls get shaky.May allah be with u guys.

I hope we (QLers) can set up an adventure land trip in the future. I've been looking for something like this, but I think it's hard to come across with people who can commit. I don't have a car nor a license, but I'm willing to pitch in some cash as my contribution.

A night camp for a stopover will be awesome!

Should we put up a separate thread for this? If anyone is interested, that is. :)

PS: I love making itineraries!

Mapsource is only a tool, you need to get maps and unlock for your device/sd card in the mapsource..... you need three maps.. 1) Middle East map 2010 2) Jordan 3) syria and lebanon map...

this are three diff mapset.. for your info..

Garmin new middle east maps 2010 (latest after V4 adn V5)..

then you have arabic maps for jordan, syria and lebanon..

dont take chances with nokia phone gps.. go for Garmin.

I didn't notice any maps for Jordan, Syria, or Lebanon. My maps were mostly for the GCC countries (MapSource Middle East v4).

lord_90: was it Garmin and MapSource Middle East, or another GPS?

they r right, its forbidden for women to drive there.

I had this land trip three times before...amazing time as well as boring when u return back...u can get a map for the directions from the lebanese embassy if u r not good in electronics..how ever u wont believe that GPS system guided me from here reaching my area exactly in lebanon...it counts the miles, time and route needed and even estimated time to reach ur destination according to ur speed..u should become good in electronics...otherwise u can use carrier pigeons ;) !!!

LOL, you don't know Saudi Arabia...

1-The men would need to be your blood relatives, all of them.

2-They would need to be driving (at least in Saudi Arabia).

Just call the Saudi embassy in Doha, and ask them...

Shakarouniya, as Alexa says "There is always hope....bla bla bla....And don't get disheartened. You can still achieve it. What you have to do is get a car from India or UK where the steering is on the Right side of the car. Then you can fix another false steering on the front left seat too. Ofcourse that will be a dummy steering. Then have one of the men sit on the front left drivers seat, whereas you will be seated on the actual drivers seat. Whenever you approach a shurta make sure to throw a towel over your steering so that they see only the steering on the left and they will feel a man is behind the wheel. You see it's easy to hoodwink the dumb shurtas!!

why do you think i would not be able to drive by myself through SA to lebanon ?!!and who said only men should be the ones driving ?!! sure i will not be alone , my friends will be with me and two of them would be men .. But i am the one who will drive .

You won't be able to drive yourself through Saudi Arabia, it should be a man.

Driving to Lebanon should be easy, Salwa road to Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, and finally Lebanon. (what edifis said)

If you go via Riyadh, you have to cross the Nafud desert. In that case you have to take many camels along with your car. And there are no roads crossing the Nafud desert and unless you have GPS you will be lost.

But if you go to Dammam and cross Saudi keeping to its border with Kuwait and Iraq then eventually you will reach Arar and Turayf in KSA. From there you can cross the borfer to Jordan and then to Syria(hilly rds) and then reach Dimashq. From Damascus it is easy to go to Bayrout.

If you are really interested you can PM me and I can give you the contact no of the Sales manager of TISCO Qatar. You can consult him on your trip.

First go to TISCO Qatar(Teyseer Industrial Suppliers & Services Co. WLL) Instrument div. and purchase a trimble or Garmin GPS for the car.And then buy the map package for Middle East. Once you got this gadgets you can fix your itinerary.

do u have Nokia mobile phone? if yes which model?
