Burj Dubai .... Burj Khalifah

Burj Dubai is gone.... but suddenly, comes Burj Khalifah? You have surely heard of this news in the midst of the freenzy going around under the needle work as it was inaugurated recently.

Cuts my heart to have lost Burj Dubai.... but, no matter what, i guess i would keep on calling this work of art and contemporary engineering as Burj Dubai. I just got used to it. I started my Middle East stint in Dubai, saw how this needle sprouted from the ground 'til she became fully grown. Simply heartbreaking.... adding wound to the injury.

You shouldn't be sad about this. Really. It's gone because maybe there was something wrong about it. Have you ever thought about this? Maybe there is something good building instead of it. Just like they did with the hotels in New York City. That are was really a disaster but when they started building these hotels in there, everything changed. The aspect of the entire city looked different. Now, they are the best hotels in the area and you know what? The host and room services, the restaurants in, don't have a match. They're one of a kind.

Dubai is trying every possible way to please ABu DHabi and this is one such gesture.

Last week, I saw billboards in Sheikh Zayeed Road (only in dubai side)advertising a new website >>> www.ourfatherzayeed.com.au

NOwhere in Abu Dhabi, I found that billboard but in Dubai.

That says it all. They dont mind calling father, paa, Abba or anyhthing, as long as the money keeps flowing :)

I've no problem with the name change, in fact I think it's about time Dubai acknowledged where there money comes from. :)

They want the money to bail Dubai out, there are certain caveats they have to agree to, one of them being the name change.

Emir of Abudhabi more than likely made it part of the bailout,so Dubai never forgets who saved there ass.

I like Shiekh Mohammad's humblness by naming the tower as Burj Khalifa.

But I liked the most was a cartoon appeared regarding Burj Khalifa in yesterday's Al Raya Arabic Daily. :)

I can't help but truly admire the strength in Sheik Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum in the midst of this heartbreaking moment... to name his masterpiece for the persona of another Emirate. As one comment on the Gulf Times today said... "it is like naming a new landmark in Glasgow after London".

Some people seem to be pissed off by the name Khalifa... Why?

It's Burj Khalifa, and it's in Dubai... It's no longer called Burj Dubai or Dubai Tower.

Whatever it is, it is still a beacon in the world. It is by far the biggest landmark achievement in the world so far and I don't think anyone will surprass this anytime soon.

I have lived in doha for over 4 years, never lived in Dubai but I can clearly say no matter how hard the crises is they will get out of it cause they deserve. Dubai and the UAE in general is an inspirational place to all arabs.

It is named in honour of the ruler of Abu Dhabi.... He of the deep pockets..

It only adds more sarcasm to Dubai having a tower named after a Qatar ex-ruler. LOL

Burj Khalifa.... So you can say the name of an Arab city, and don't like to say the name of an Arab man?

Are you being racist?

IT'S CALLED BURJ KHALIFA, you'll get used to it.
