UDC plans second road to connect Pearl-Qatar and Doha. It's about time!

How many times have you shouted out in frustration at the heavy traffic jams in and around The Pearl-Qatar in the evenings and weekends? If you’re like me, the answer is several times.

So me, and a lot of people I know, are heaving huge sighs of relief after hearing about UDC’s (main contractor for building The Pearl-Qatar) plans to build a new road to connect the facility to Doha.

True, it is very much in the ‘study’ phase and it may take a long time to come to fruition. But even the notion that they are thinking about it has given me a shot of confidence and happiness.

People in the know say that UDC has already commissioned specialised consultants to study the project’s feasibility. One of the main hurdles, which I feel they’ll face, is how to minimize the environmental impact. Systems that are more ‘smart’ at controlling the flow of traffic is VERY important.

This is the right time to think about it because I hear that a lot of new properties are getting ready. More living accommodation means more cars and more cars means even worse traffic situation. I cannot help but shudder.

I truly hope that UDC gets solid plans in place to help decongest the area. They say that your stay in a country is what you make it out to be. While moving into The Pearl-Qatar, I thought it was going to be a sweet experience.

But the bad traffic can turn the sweetest of sweets to the bitterest chewing experience!

Lived on the pearl for over a year. Been stuck in traffic about 5 times.

I leave for work at 6.15am and come back about 5.45pm.

Clearly they are planning for the future however when the Pearl is more populated. Can only be a good thing.
