Poets, writers pay homage to Pakistani legends
LOCAL poets and writers paid homage to legendary Pakistani poets Perveen Shakir and Munir Niazi at a poetic session.
Hosted by Shaiqeen-e-Fun, president Shaukat Ali Naz, to mark the death anniversary of Shakir and Niazi, the session was presided over by Idara-e-Khayal-o-Fun president Mohammed Mumtaz Raashed while head of Pak Shama School Islamic studies Hafiz Tahir Ansari attended as chief guest.
Besides Naz, Raashed and Ansari, speakers who highlighted the literary contributions of Shakir and Niazi included Mohammed Ashraf Siddiqi, Rashid Niaz, Shafiq Akhtar and Tahir Ahmed Tanweer. Fahim Syed

Shakir died in a road accident in Islamabad on December 26, 1994 while Niazi, who was considered as one of the most accomplished Pakistani poets, passed away in Lahore on December 26, 2006. – RC
