Pakistani expatriates to celebrate National Day on 25th & 26th March
Pakistani expatriates in Qatar will celebrate their country’s National Day on March 25 and 26, a spokesperson for the National Events Organising Committee (NEOC) said yesterday.
The Pakistan National Day falls on March 23 every year.
The NEOC, under the patronage of the Pakistan Embassy in Qatar, will serve as the umbrella organisation to co-ordinate all the arrangements to celebrate the National Day.
Two mega events to be organised by the NEOC will be a grand community gathering on March 25 at the Pakistan Education Centre (PEC) in Abu Hamour, followed by a humorous mushaira the next day at Pakistan Embassy Auditorium in West Bay.
“For close to 100,000 Pakistani residents working in all sectors of the society in Qatar, marking their national day with a spirit of community holds a sentimental value,” NEOC chairman Qazi Mohamed Asghar said.
“We will ensure that all Pakistanis in Qatar get a taste of home, away from home,” he added.
The celebration at the PEC on March 25 will feature stage show with the participation of children of all Pakistani schools in Qatar performing national songs and presenting cultural items.
Leading celebrities and singers from Pakistan will also perform. Arrangements are being made for restaurants and hotels to set up food kiosks.
“There will be food corners from the diverse regions of Pakistan featuring ethnic flavours,” Asghar said.
The “Mazahia Mushaira” on March 26 will feature top Pakistani columnist and poet Atta-ul-Haq Qasmi, satirist Prof Anwar Masoud, along with Salman Gilani, Dr Inam-ul-Haq Javed and Sayed Sabir.
NEOC members include Dr Mansoor Abbas Rizvi (chief co-ordinator), Asghar (chairman), Janan Khan Bangash (vice chairman), Tahir Chaudhry (general secretary), Amin Motiwala (joint secretary), Tahir Jamil (finance secretary), Riyaz Bakali (technical co-ordinator), Ajmal Chaudhry (information secretary) and Liaqat Nawaz Malik (media co-ordinator).
Separately, the Pakistan Women’s Association (PWA) has said it would hold a fun day for ladies and children during the first week of April.
“We are gearing up to present a variety of programmes, cultural shows, folk dances and games,” an official said.
