Qatar Airways staff raise over QR 145,000 for Qatar Cancer Society
Qatar Airways (QA) has donated QR145,000 to QCS in support of the organization’s efforts to raise breast cancer awareness and to provide care to those living with the illness.
The amount was collected by QA employees as part of the several ‘Think Pink’ fund-raising initiatives under the airline’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign in October.
During the month, QA had organized a host of activities to play its part in the fight against breast cancer. These included: hosting a month-long breast cancer awareness program for QA employees worldwide, engaging passengers and the wider community in Think-Pink activities, offering custom-designed limited edition amenity kits and pink-themed special menus on selected flights.
QA also operated a special Think Pink flight that comprised an all-female crew including pilots, cabin crew, ATC controller, engineers, dispatchers, and passengers. The flight drew the iconic pink ribbon in the Qatar sky and its path could be seen in real-time on air traffic tracker Flight Radar.
The donation from QA staff was presented in the form of a cheque from QA to QCS. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, and the QCS Chairman, Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al Thani attended the event.
“We are very proud to see our employees embrace such an initiative to offer their support to QCS. It is a great honour to hand over this cheque on behalf of our staff. Qatar Airways is a dedicated supporter of QCS, and committed to continue raising awareness of breast cancer worldwide," commented Al Baker.
The QCS Chairman highlighted, "This year as in previous years, Qatar Airways supported QCS to highlight the importance of cancer prevention, early detection and patients’ psychological and financial support. This praise-worthy initiative aligns with QCS’ objectives to reduce the burden of cancer and ensure that cancer control remains a priority within our communities. We are grateful to Qatar Airways for leading this influential effort."
QA also recently won two BOC Brilliance Awards for ‘Best Social Media Campaign’ and ‘Brilliance in Employee Engagement in HR’ for its 2019 Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign.
