Rude and Racist Manager of Palm Tower Branch- Mr. Sylvian
Had a very bad experience at the Monoprix at Palm Towers.
I work in the building and regularly buy lunch and groceries at Monoprix. Won't be shoppping there anymore!
I had just come to my office as I had a parcel delivered. I took delivery at reception and since the parcel was a bit heavy, I loaded it in the Monoprix shopping trolley.
As I was about to move, Mr. Sylvian came up to me and very rudely asked me to offload my parcel as this was for the use of customers only. I told him that I am a regular customer and I work in the building.
He was very rude and said I had to offload the parcel right away or he would call security. It was quite upsetting that that a store manager (which I later found out) would behave in such a manner for the use of a trolley!
Wonder if he would have behaved this way if I were wearing the national dress?!
Mary Catherine- one doesn't have to 'say something' to be racist.
Would he have treated a Qatari national in the same way? Probably not!
That's what makes it racist!
Also, working in the same building, I regularly purchased stuff from Monoprix (not anymore!)
I suppose you're not in customer services- building goodwill doesn't seem like a good idea to you.
So what did he say that was racist?
BTW you were wrong to use the trolley for other than what it was purchased by Monoprix.
Wonder if he would have behaved this way if I were wearing the national dress?!'' - unlikely.
however, you were also in the wrong for using the trolley
Expat service providers cant be rude with Nationals so they take out their anger on Expats like themselves.
Having said that, you should not have used the trolley if you were not going to make any purchase. And he could have put it mildly to you instead of being rude like you said.
I have had it from cart operators in Souq Wakra. So i know my place in this country as Expat.
