quick question on importing track car
I have been lurking on here for quite some time now, ever since I signed a contract to work here, qatar living has been great for information and news about Qatar, I searched about this but never found a answer to my question maybe someone can help me. I have a old school track car that I build and race back in the US I like to know if I can ship it here, I dont know how hard is it to ship & register a track car or do I need to register the car since I dont drive it in the streets even when it was in the US. Thanks for having me...
Yeah britexpat I'll try to bring it over, id like to see that pink kia in action.
Mohdata, yeah I reading about the 3yrs old rule, only thing I got so far is (don't know if 100% legit) to bring a car here like a classic you need to have a car sales business licence or car dealership? If its to hard its ok I was just thinking it will be cool to see a ae86 on Qatar's race track.
My other option is to buy a used toyota gt86 or subaru brz, since I know a lot of tuning shops in California & Japan I can slowly build it.
Ahhaha yes msn619 you'll have to contend with Brit and his pink Kia, if you and your ae86 are to have any street cred here...nah just kidding...there's a few other famous user cars on this website such as rizk's tuk-tuk and sulie's tiida...you'll hear about them if you hang around the forums long enough haha...
bring it over .. I'm just having the suspension upgraded on my Pink Kia and have blueprinted the engine adding twin blowers.
Haha yeah would've loved to see pics but maybe they don't like links in the comments, not sure... Hey wow the corolla ae86 now that's a great project car... Many in neighbouring Bahrain and uae but not seen one here yet... Yes buddy head to the traffic or customs department; your first ports of call... The shipping guys will put all the onus on you to ensure the documentation is proper at both export and import ends, with a job like this.. Because generally you can't bring in a road legal car that's older than 3 years and that's a straightforward rule.. With classics/track cars it's more vague and different process and so the shippers wash themselves of it.. Anyways, best of luck.. You got the ae86 and you got a pretty good circuit here to track it... Now to get it here :-)... Have a good day...
I don't know what happen to my reply? I guess I violated a rule by posting a link on my track pictures. But on the bottom is my post without the link.
Thank you for a quick reply, I do love my car but I like the sport more, I have been digging more about how to import cars here just no clear answer on step by step I even found a shipping company that will ship my car but after that everything is grey. I am thinking on going to the transportation office & ask questions. The car is a old japanese car in the US they call it a 1987 toyota corolla GTS, in japan a toyota trueno chassis code AE86, I had it for 16yrs now build it my self, drift it, road race & autocross it, its just a little fun car.

Hey hi, first off, none of what I will say is concrete procedure or info, but nonetheless; from all I've heard and learnt about this, it should be both easy and difficult to get the car here...easy because you wish to register and use it as a classic/show/track car...this is more straightforward than a road legal car for obvious reasons...difficult because there's a vague and tedious process of getting permissions from various ministries such as customs/traffic dept/business & trade/environment...i suggest you head to customs first and hopefully one of the many helpful locals there will show you the way... Even though not easy, I would still suggest you invest the energy required because you obviously love your car and since the Qataris love their cars too, you can expect to find fellow car lovers in the ministries who will be glad to help once you tell them you love your car :-) there's plenty of classic/track/race built cars here and they didn't just magically appear from nowhere... Little patience and running around required but it will be worth it and I say go for it because I too would move mountains if I had a track car I loved :-) what car is it btw just curious..
