rumor about Villaggio and Hyatt plaza will tear down for new stadium 2022 World Cup

Why not just build an underground stadium beneath Villaggio and Hyatt plaza so WC fans can go shopping after the games?

not true, the capacity of Khalifa Stadium is already 45, 000 i heard they are adding something on top, an assemby of some sort. that does not need any demolition,

Very True baldrick. but again they have to expand it now, which require space.

Arien, they may make the stadium 65,000 seat, but the vast majority will be WC visitors without cars, and when the WC is over there will never be 65,000 people in that stadium

Hope they dont do it. I think it was even listed as one of top 50 malls around the globe

Might be in Future we'll have Only Stadiums to Visit in Qatar for our Weekend.

By snessy• 8 Dec 2010 15:23

Yeah Arien, but if you look at the marketing for Qatar as a place to visit, they focus on Villagio, Corniche, Al Khor and a couple of other places. How can they take that away, when they have put so much emphasis on it...unless they move Villagio...but I can't believe they will get rid of it altogether.

By genesis• 8 Dec 2010 15:21
genesis

Totally untrue and was denied by the minister of municipality on local newspaper. No further eminent domain will take place there

By Arien• 8 Dec 2010 15:20

snessy I think the news is true, they have to increase the capacity of the stadium to 65000 as per the plan and promise , and almost double the parking area.

By snessy• 8 Dec 2010 15:17

Personally I think this is a load of poppycock.

Relocation is the answer! Business could not stop.

Moreso, that Qatar is preparing for the 2022 World Cup.

First time I heard it, they were saying Villagio will be brought down to construct Olympic village in case Qatar gets the Olympics.

World Cup doesn't require anything like that so don't think it is required now..

By tryke• 8 Dec 2010 15:08

@ propertyinqatar...there's no way villagio and hyatt can be saved man... there's a requirement for 2022 so we've got to accept the fact that someday we're gonna miss these two shopping malls...

Isn't there a big frickin tower between Khalifa stadium and Villagio?

It makes no economical sense to do this, and there is already sufficient space to carry out the expansion. I really think it is just a rumour.

propertyinqatar, it is yet to be confirmed, do not overreact just yet.. :P

same as baldrick, I've only heard this twice here in QL, first time I heard it was from Arien..

By snessy• 8 Dec 2010 15:07

How can they destroy Villagio? They use it to promote Qatar all over the world saying it's Doha's best mall...

It has to happen because the stadium has to be extended .. And it can only be in one direction, since there is housing on the other...
