Oranges in Qatar ....

It is very funny for me to find spanish products around the world - like Oranges from Valencia in Doha's Carrefour.

What is not so funny is to find them cheaper than in Spain!!!!
Crazy world...

Well that's probably a good sign they came from Spain then!

I was just pointing out that a Valencia orange doesn't necessarily come from Spain.

By eu61• 20 Sep 2008 20:46

... but it was labeled as "FROM Valencia (Spain)"

Valencia is just the name of the orange, not where they come from.

yes, I was in Germany and it is the same than in Spain (I guess the same in all western Europe) - it was shocking to me too when I saw the pipes in Qatar exposed to the sun...

QT, I was fed with it and so were my children. When we came to Qatar we switched to bottled water. Very unusual at first.

eu, the tap water in Germany is fuc*ing cold. I guess 7 to 10 degrees. The water supplies run at least 1.50 meters (if not more) below the surface in the earth. There are no free hanging electrical or sanitary tubes and hoses. It is simply not allowed. It was the first time in Qatar that I saw hoses and tubes on the walls instead of in the walls. (In Spain they have that, too).

What? Even for babies? It must be top notch tap water then!

QT, yes, because it is not stored in tanks on the rooftops. It is pressurized all the way from the plant to your kitchen tap. It is approved for babies' consumption.

They don't have many German beers at QDC. I think the Germans drink their beer themselves.

"Spanish air and sun canned" - it was in Benidorm or a place like this (lol). I have to admit that was an original idea.

1) dealers are greedier in Spain than in Doha. So the spanish profits are greater than travel plus qatari profits - I bet for this one.

2) Chinese oranges as MD said. Could be, could be...

true, nomad, but when you open the bottle in Doha the wine reacts chemically with the air of Doha. So what you really need is an airtight drinking chamber filled with parisienne air.

By eu61• 20 Sep 2008 19:30

its not joke. There are special cases for wine.

Cannot be very cold, cannot be warm...

you must hold the wine for days after a trip to avoid the movement of the bottle to change the taste.

It is absolutely an art...

but md, the wine's supposed to be made in france (packed and all) so it should taste the same. that lebanese food is cooked in germany so...

Well then how can they be cheaper here than in Spain if they actually belong to Spain?. Were they marked correctly?.

eu, it's not claustrophobic if you have a windsurfer or a boat, and there is no such male to female ratio as here in Doha. So, what you're talking about?

thanks for the clue md, im gonna try locking my self in my room looking at pics ive taken from paris and setting the ac just right...it might work.

(I was working in Canary Islands for a while - sounds nice, but at the end of the day it is a little claustrophobic).

I think Im starting to miss a glass of red wine with the meal.

nomad, I noticed that, too. I drank Malvasia in Lanzarote and took some bottles home to Germany. In Lanzarote the air, the temperature, the ambience made it taste beautiful, in Germany it tasted like sh*t. So, why the difference?

Qatari's know their fruits, so if you see a large pile, that's not fresh it means they're not good.

Otherwise, they are what they say they are.

You have to be very careful. The stickers may say Spain or South Africa, but in reality the fruits are Made in China. Trust me.

It was interesting for me to find South African plums here in June, since it was winter in SA.
