Disgrace of veil

I have always thought that the whole idea behind the veil was to avoid men from sinning and I really appreciate those who wear it out of being sacred.
However, I have seen the worst disgrace of this whole abaya thing in the form of dance called as "ma3alayah" where girls wearing full abayahs performing lesbian and acts related to sex in a party. Such a hypocrisy which I am sure is not backed by any religion.
True..I couldn't agree more!
Sorry for the delay.. My work is lil hectic so I couldn't follow the responses. My concern was the veil and the dirty acts in those kind of dances - in some extreme 'cases' a group of women would do the sexual acts.
Anyway I understood that these taboo things happen everywhere and the response of 'qatari princess' is sufficient to say that its not a norm here.
Actually I was thinking of more punk and rave parties where bisexual is the norm...
Of course things like this will go on in any country. And it is sad that its always the girls who are blamed and stereotyped while the men run away scot free!
As diamond girl said earlier.. this happens in every society. And, as muslims, we should not think we are immune to the problem. Although I must admit I think it happens far less in conservative countries then where I grew up but I have no guarantee that this is true.
PM, homeaway posted the topic.

Where is Mr. Homeaway...havnt heard from him after all the comments from all of them....can he prove something or just another.......
if this is what the guys are doing...then what are the girls are doing on their side of the wedding hall. Things that make you go hmmm.
Let's not forget that these dances are performed at some weddings. As well as being sleazy, it is the height of tackiness to have that at your wedding. Yurrccchhh.

not if it gets worse, I was just referring to the body movements of the women, not the whole social context. Oh dear, I should have known it would be taken the wrong way, never mind.

unless it gets worse, I'd agree it's not that bad. Fascinating and incredibly sensual, yes, but not disgusting.

maybe its just me.. but from what I saw from the video I don't really find it that disgusting.. Unless it gets alot worse than that? Although it angers me that muslims who believe in Allah would act in such a way.
But I've seen alot worse in nightclubs where bisexual is not all that bad. And females bump, grind, and make out with girls and guys.
Of course perhaps I'm just saying that cuz i'm part of the younger generation who has partied hardy before practicing Islam. And much worse than these things are quite normal and acceptable with most of my mates from back in the days.
it all started with Sir Mix A Lot.
Ooer, blush, thanks PM

That its simply frowned upon and you hardly see it at weddings here if at all. Certainly not at men's weddings. And I also mentioned that it's mostly common in Saudi and the UAE.
There is no such thing here in Qatar NOT at all. No.
No offence but its in UAE mostly and done by the baloshi or balouchi or yemani.

I rather think the point is that it IS happening in the Gulf. Women are doing it and men are enjoying it as is evident on the video clips. The women need the money they earn from it, the men are happy to pay for that kind of entertainment. I'd hazard a guess that it is happening in ALL countries of the world. Qatar ain't no different!

Qatari Princess has a point. Have you been to a wedding here where this dance took place? It's generally frowned upon and it could mean social suicide for the girl that performs the dance. And it's true, they specifically hire non-Khaleeji girls to do it. Girls from Sudan, Senegal, other African countries and even Palestine. Take Saudi and the UAE for example, these are the two countries where these dances are most common- specifically weddings...if the girls that appear in the videos come from well known backgrounds it would mean the apocalypse! that's why you see some of these vids on youtube- these women dance 'm3alayah' for a living, so they dont mind.
dadgum it...now you did it...I will spend the rest of the afternoon inserting insults in that and seeing what I come up with...

point is, alot of people will go all crazy saying "no! don't do that, *insert insult here*" (as I saw on Youtube). But at the end of the day, if something is not your 'thing' then just ignore it.

hi mila!!

this thing is happend everywhere, something taboo and some people deliberately practise it.
Everybody is right and Everybody is wrong, its depend where you stand
there are people with mindsets like that in every nationality..even Qatari. No telling WHERE it orginated...not being sarcastic, but you are VERY young and still extremely idealistic..which is good, but you also need to learn there is a total HUGE world out there that isn't quite as black and white as it seems.
You know..reminds me of the Arabic version of girlie shows/strip joints...which "foreigners" wives don't like either, QP, but its a sad fact of life that it DOES happen.

It's not techniquely true, cause Arabs the real Arabs won't dare do such a thing, and by the way where did you see them?? It's possible but they're not originally Qatari or from the Gulf, they could be forigners in disguise!
In the second clip (ma3alaya) I have noticed one person distributing boxes of tissues. Looks like the audience are having severe flu

PM - never seen it , wat is it called on You Tube do ya know?
life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......
So it is a matter of pretty look. Thought something else
===================================== http://www.qatarliving.com/node/58409
Well as far as the Abaya goes, nowadays they produce them with all kinds of designs they look very pretty in comparison to the plain black ones. If it is part of the cuture to weas one why not pep it up a little with a design.
good morning all
Would you please be more specific about what you mean by "very dressy"
===================================== http://www.qatarliving.com/node/58409
i was out with PM few weeks ago ... and we saw this young qatari girl in abaya with monalisa picture at her back ...
Actually I think the Abaya looks very dressy on most of the girls especially now that they have nice desings on them and on thing about it is is very practical if you have to rush outside quickly you are dresssed in a minute.
I could have used a viel on my face yesterday as I was out all day and now have to deal with the consequences of sunbure. lol
DG - YES in saudi even foreigners have to wear the abbaya not only the locals, i have a few abbayas myself fr my 7 yr stint based in saudi, and yes it is indeed sad when ppl prioritise cultural values over religion
life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......
It's not against my religion. My religion (Gypsyism) is very supportive of homosexuality.
"When they say he could walk on water, I think of it like he could fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Literal people scare me, getting it wrong fundamentally, down at the church of 'Look it says right here see!" Ani Difranco
MashAllah DG.. I hope to raise my own children to stick to what they believe despite the consequences! As free choice is very important. What I wish to ingrain in them is that every choice they make has both positive as well as negative consequences. Some that we may not sometimes see! Allahu Alim. and I hope they will have the ability to analyse themselves and choose carefully! So I guess the mind should be used and the end decision lies with the heart. If that makes any sense at all!
Probably, PH, by their families I guess. Fortunately I am blessed with a family who encourage one another to think for themselves and make their own decisions about life, including wardrobe.

but don't you agree DG that many people feel pressured into wearing hijab and abaya..
Because it sends the message that they are good girls! And in that sense it becomes more cultural then for the sake of Allah?
I guess it's all about choice. I choose to wear abaya and shayla sometimes as it is a strong part of my culture here in Qatar and at times I want to identify with that. No-one has ever said that I have to wear it. I think that's only in Saudi where it is law (I think?)
Most people in the world want to identify with the culture they 'belong to' by dressing the way that the majority do in that culture.

Actually i think its sad, as they arent wearing it for the right reasons, but i guess culture is why they have to wear it, and they shouldnt have to....
lol that one is a classic nadt.. mmm how shall we dress today?? Oh yes.. by dying my hair blonde, showing my black roots and face caked with makeup so I can look like a plastic tart wearing a hijab!
i like the great hollywood style hairdos under the veil..with half the hair showing......
That is so true whoami.. these days some people do make it a fashion.
lol it may be hypocritical but these days the abaya or shaila is just a fashion statement (because of the elaborate designs) and bright colours.
I think it's sexy :P

And tell us a bit more about your experience?
Did it occur to you that maybe its any person wearing a abaya and performing these acts...I mean abayas arent sold exclusively to muslims women only....if its true and they are muslim women im with mariam-mar...prove it, would be interesting to see...
Where have you seen such thing? Prove it....
