im buying a new land cruiser GX 4.0L, i want to take it to the desert and dunes, will driving up and down the dunes ruin my car? for example, will the axles go bad quicker, and all the engine parts will fill up with sand? is that bad or is the car made to do this???

The way you drive will be the answer

you can go from point A to B with no problem

and you can abuse your car to get to point B and might spend a lot fixing it

cleaning the car is no problem as all the car wash here are experts :) cause all here go out to desert with their SUV s

just take care of it and don't over do it and you should be fine

You will need to Jackwash your car everytime you use it in the desert.

Important point to note is that your 4X4 is NOT covered by insurance if, godforbids, something happens to you in the desert.

Drive carefully, keep seatbelts on for all passengers, follow normal 4x4 sand duning instructions and do not leave any dirt/camping material/waste in the desert when you are done.

The deserts of Qatar are beautiful and it is a must to spend some time there. Just respect it though.

I agree what both of you. Apart from having the skill to drive in the sand, it's not recommended to drive your new car there, plus significant reduced resale value for your car once it is used in the dessert.

What some of my friends do is that they buy another second-hand 4WD car for max QR 30k (mostly 20k only) to be "abused" in the sand without feeling guilty.

But it's up to u, anyway....

Enjoy your dessert driving experience. It's a good feeling though... so adventurous...

Come on man, You are buying a new car and taking it to the desert? You will loose the re-sale value as sand will be every where and it will even spoil the paint.

since it is a new car, and ur not used to its riding technique and capabilites - better join a desert safari group trip and enjoy the whole scene, instead of driving up and down, gettick stuck, worrying about ur new car all the way!
