why do they do this?

i was driving along the wakra-messaieed highway yesterday afternoon about 4:30pm on the way home on the fast lane after overtaking, when i noticed a car behind me coming closer at a very high speed and flashing his lights at the same time.
there's a car and a bus on my right so i couldnt give way to him right away but he kept coming closer anyway until he was inches from behind me and i could see from my rear view mirror that he's really pissed. after overtaking the two vehicles i moved to the slower lane. the car that was behind me then came alongside and the driver started sounding his horn trying to catch my attention but i just ignored him.
i think this made him more angry cause then he tried to sideswipe me! he stayed in front of me watching my reaction thru his mirrors.
to make him go away i picked up my phone and pretended that i'm talking to someone while looking at his plate number. this made him disappear.
but back to my question, why do they do this?

Simple, they are impatient , rude and spoil-bratz with an ego and attitude problem larger than the thing above the shoulder which we call the "head".

Try this strategy.

Right lane = 0 -100 kph

Middle lane = 101 -120 kph

Left Lane = 121 kph to infinity

Let them take home the speeding ticket.

Cheers,

i always make sure that the fast lane is clear thru my mirrors and only then i will make my move.

my speed was in the border of 120 and i was actually forced to go beyond that just to give way to this driver.

i still fail to understand why he had tried to sideswipe me when he already had the road all by himself.

Not that I condone such behaviour, or blaming you, but what speed were you doing at the time?

I've seen guys on that road happily doing 120 and have cars pull out to overtaking trucks barely doing 70, then wonder why they 'suddenly' have someone tailgating them!

It is the same question as why do they not use indicators, why does nobody give way, and why do they only use the middle lane? They have no road sense nor common sense. I fail to believe that people actually have to take a driving test in this country, never mind having someone to enforce the driving laws. Why do you think there are no succesful Arabian racing drivers?

Having got that off my chest, I think this is a great country and the Qataris are great people..unless they are behind the wheel of a car!

They do this because they think they alone own the road and everybody should give way when they come. You were smart. Just ignore them. If you give them a single notice they may just think they really are that important.

There are too many wreckless driver in Qatar so beware and keep alert when you driving in Qatar. To answer your Question is simple. It is because of their attitudes and it will never change until their get a lesson with a right person to fight them back.

Mostly they are stupid, overprivileged, male kids who get their kicks out of driving overpowered vehicles in dangerous ways. In other societies they have other (no less destructive) outlets like drugs. They end up as proof of Darwinism (killing themselves before they have a chance to reproduce). The down side is they bring innocent victims (like you) with them. You acted appropriatly. Better to get out of their way and let them do it to themselves, not us.

Happens all the time.

Oh bless the merry mental men and much to our dismay,

On all the roads, in Qatar, you'll meet them every day,

Wheel in hand and foot on gas, the ghostly men array,

To change your lane and pretty fast you never should delay.

The think they're fast, but then alas,

there is a price to pay,

They jump the lane and then the light,

Setting all in fear and fright,

But never fear their time is near,

Because hundreds die every year!!!!

Welcome to Qatar.

Why? There are lots of answers we can give you but none will satisfy you. But what you did is right, pretending to call somebody, but if it was me, I will take the picture of his car including his plate no. as well since you are already holding your mobile. Actually, you can make complain against them (some might say, waste of time)well, than doin nothing at all.

This are the abusive guys of Qatar who thinks that they are above the rest of nationalities simply because this is their country. The sad thing is, they are giving ISLAM a bad impression.

Peace! Have a nice weekend.
