Verdict for not so major accident.....

I had an accident last year [oct 2007] where I hit the car from rear causing some damage. Since the car I hit was just three weeks old, the expense for fixing the car was above 20,000 QR (guess they replaced everything). Also there was no injuries involved to anybody. I clearly accepted my fault without any kind of arguments.

Two months later I received a call & was asked to attend the court which was of a surprise to me. The verdict given was to be behind the bars for 2 weeks & no options for fine was given. I did an appeal & the next hearing is in November last week (Next Month).

I've heard from people that there can be no more appeals after the 1st appeal. I don't know what to do about it. Should I be hiring a lawyer ? Any recommendations for a good lawyer & how much would it cost ?

Heavens yes, hire a lawyer. The accident may have been minor but jail is never a trivial matter. Hire the best Qatari lawyer you can and pay him whatever he asks!

I did have an insurance & all the papers were up to date. Its just that according to the traffic rules, if the expense of fixing the car goes above 10,000 QR then you'll have to face the court. And yeah I had to fix my car at my own expense (3rd party insurance) which was around 3000 QR.

You had no insurance for your car at the time of the accident? It seems that your Insurance was expired otherwise it is the responsibility of your Insurance Company to repair the car. You should explain things for others to understand the whole issue and advise you accordingly.

Definately you have to hire a good lawyer to get you out of this mess.
