Taking Taxi to work?

Grass
By Grass

My husband and I both got job offers. We are moving to doha soon. His work place is close to Sheraton Hotel. Mine is by City plaza on Al Saad st. I am scared of driving in Doha. Thinking of taking taxi to work everyday. I heard that taxi is cheap. I make 20500 a month all inclusive. Is taxi affordable for me if I live close to Sheraton Hotel area?

Thanks.

As of the present times, calling for a taxi to pick you up for work would be a hell of an experience. But there are private car services can do it for a fee that both parties can agree on.

it's understandable to be scared of driving in a new place, but if you weigh the pros and cons, it'll be much more convenient and economical for you to have your own transporation.

Usually there is a break of 2 hrs in the afternoon...

So 2 times going to office & 2 times comming back to home. Wonder how any work gets done here!!!

So multiply that with your taxi fare. It would be QR 15 one way and so Qr60 in a day.

if you will also take taxi, alot some budget paying the meter spending on the traffic (hehehehehe..paying for the taxi that is at halt?!..:P), and dont compute how much you spent paying the taxi when he is moving and while at stop (due to traffic), you will be dissappointed...

Good Morning,

It is quite normal to organise a paid taxi that will come every day and pick you up, the only thing there is if he gets sick you have to see how you get to work. There are of course no subways no trains in Qatar.

However, as Scarlett said best thing is to jump right in and rent a car and get used to the flow of traffic.

Although there are a great many new traffic rules you still have many who do not adhere to them, so when you start driving you have to be very cautious.

It is almost impossible to live in Qatar without a car as many living areas are quite a bit fron the city and good shopping malls are spread around.

There is a bus service, however, as a woman you really don't want use that.

most of the folks have slowed down...ok st least in front of the camera area...roundabout are still a different matter, tho. Ok, so I lived in Houston and everyone drives aggressively. You just learn to drive and not look in the rearview mirror!!! lol

and good morning to you also, handsome...and a very happy Diwali also!!!

you have to consider the traffic and it depends on your working hour schedule. So, you can probably consider a budget of Qrs. 40/- day

Cheers!

and drive...its gotten much better since the new traffic laws have come into effect. You'll learn your way around in no time...and you will also learn to drive as the locals do...defensively tho...

between Qrs. 10/- 12/- one way and that will be Qrs20/-24/- supposedly you only work 22-23 days/ a month so it cost you Qrs. 460/- 552/- (monthly) You have to give those taxis an allowance of 2 hrs grace period ;-)

Goodluck!

Cheers!

This place isn't something out of the world, with that kinda money you could do a lot other than just getting yourself a Taxi...

And regarding the question about you getting a taxi, I would rather suggest you hire one of the persons who normally shell out this kinda service for pick up and drop to office and home...

Cheers...

Yeah, you could take the train at the local subway, Is cheaper than a taxi, Just for your monthly income. or You could rent a Donkey with a push cart and a driver.

I don't drive, I just fly, of course at the speed of sound.
