STUPID QUESTIONS, SERIOUS ANSWERS

Yeah, I know, we should not be promoting stupid questions in a forum like this, but sometimes we can't help it. All of us have our own "stupid" inquiries, and we often are shy to ask. Thus, the creation of this thread. So, fellow expats, please don't hesitate to post.

I am new here in Doha, so here's my first stupid question: I know beer is expensive here, but in any case that I still get drunk, will I be chased by the police? For example, I act sober, just like any regular guy, but they can smell the alcohol, will I get reported by the Qataris and get jailed?

Haha... Yeah, kinda paranoid.

I have never been to ridges and yes prices can be crazy, but I'm saying that prices can be reasonable.

For example I have been to Dera Bar and it's 8 Riyals for a pint of Carling. However it was 20 QR for a breezer.

(Just to avoid the question with "what were you doing there" My friends drink, I don't.)

Just as with anything, you have to shop around for a good spot.

However I think I'll ask a few friends to go into QDC and take a few snaps of the prices to show on the net to please the crowd :P (I'm not saying you are disagreeing with me Canary, I mean for other people).

Sometimes I think people on the forums are going to make me paranoid lol. I see things with my own eyes and then I start to doubt myself :P

To be honest though, from my point of view. It's better if prices go higher. Less money to spend on alcohol and less of a chance of getting piss faced.

@pepe, I'm unsure if Chandra was directing it to me or you. I assumed it was to me so I replied to her.

Prices vary and you can also get alcohol from a huge store. (if you obtain an alcohol purchasing license) see website for more info.

Thanks for making it clear to me, amnesia! It's great help. And thanks for being patient with my questions as well. People I talked with before made alcoholic stuff in Doha appear way way unaffordable. Thanks to canarybird, too, for the added info. :)

I don't drink. What do I need to do? Take pictures of menus for you?

Not everyone goes for a drink at the Ritz you know.

oh and it's 110-160 for a case of beer at the QDC. You do the maths.

I am sorry for asking but was that intended for me or for chandra? I think chandra's post (which is rather acerbic, reason of which I really don't know) was directed at me.

Good you don't drink - ok the prices in the concession providing you have a license are anywhere from QR 120 upwards depending on what you drink.

If you go to the Rydges they will charge you about QR 22 perhaps more for a glass of beer if you want to drink a glass of wine they will cheat you and you can get half a glass of white wine and I mean a half a mini glass of wine for QR 30 where you have to take care that someone will not spike your drink.

Don't drink and drive it is not at all tolerated - hence the minimal accident quota for drunk driving here.

Don't transport alcohol in your car if you don't have a license it is illegal and you can be fine and deported.

If the police at any time arrest your for alcohol abuse you will definately go to jail and you will face a fine and you will be deported which means your chances of ever working in Doha again - ende- Not only that you will have an iternational criminal record.

Oh, wow... Really? I thought beer costs about 50 Riyals and you can only get it in hotels like Ramada. Where did you check? I am curious.

Anyway, if you're drunk and driving, you'll be deported or fined an amount plus jailed.

This goes the same for indecent public behaviour while under the influence.

Thanks for the sincere responses guys! I appreciate the concern. :)

And yeah, lima foxtrot is right, my question wasn't about drinking and driving. It's more of being in a public place like what chubby said. Thanks for pointing it out. I think they just got confused by the word I used, "chase".

So, it's clear to me now- it's okay to be intoxicated and merry in Doha so long as I don't pose a threat or danger to people around me.

This case is closed. On to the next stupid question. Anyone? :)

i understand u were asking if after having a few drinks and then being in public would u be reported for being so .. well that totally depends on where you are .. plus how u are behaving .. effects of alcohol are varied as u very well know . at some point u may think u are doing somethin normal which may not be perceived the same way by others .. hehe .. hence watch ur step .. take it easy .. in case u seem to be a hindrance to public peace you will be hauled off the street :D .. i'm talkin of extreme or near extreme cases here .. oh and yea .. no drinking and driving .. so not worth it .. catch a cab or have a sober designated driver .. so much easier ! take care ..

life goes on ..

DO NOT, drink and drive. Even 1 drink, is 1 drink to many when you are driving.

I don't think Pepe was thinking of drinking & driving. It seems he wanted to know if he had a drink and was out, would he get reported.

I may be wrong but that's my perspective on what he was asking.

Dude, Dude, If you like to jeopardized others with drinking and driving, then you are real stupid. I rather pay a taxi take me home, after a couple of drinks at the bar, before I do drive my vehicle drunk. Is serious business in Qatar. They don't have to conduct a blood test or applied a breath analyzer for alcohol levels in your blood stream, is enough for them to have some kind of suspicion from the police officer to detain you If you are drunk.

Is not worth my time and money to spend some hard time in a Qatar jail, suffering the embarrassment of deportation orders, Monetary fines and losing my job. All these could happens, after being caught drunk while driving.

Is common sense,

If you drive?

Don't drink!

If you drink?

Don't drive!

If you act like Animal on the street for sure you will be noticed in public and high chances of CID being around or spys working for police for commission can hand you over to police. (i purposely mentioned the word "Animal" since every over drunk person act like that)

If you walk like a sobar man then for sure there is no problem even the smell comes and someone notice will not create any problem.
