Should I take my dogs to Doha?

I have a 90lb (40kg) black lab mix and a 65lb (30kg) collie mix. I am moving to Doha in February from the United States. I am having trouble finding someone to adopt my dogs here so I am considering bringing them with us to Doha. Does anyone know the approximate cost to transport and get them through Qatar customs? They are also very energetic need exercise. Is there a beach or some other type of area I can let them run around off-leash? Is there ex-pat housing near any of these areas? I know it is too hot in the summer daytime for this, but will it also be too hot in the evening? Finally, is there any type of ex-pat housing the allows dogs and has a private fenced yard area for two large dogs to play? Thanks for any replies.

Doha is not a good place for dogs. There are not many areas where you can let them off the leash for some real exercise.

The summer heat is a killer and you would have to keep them in the air-conditioning most of the summer.

Better don't bring them.

OK, I would love to take them. But I am still a bit worried about how they would get along. They are still a little young and cannot be left inside alone or they will chew the furniture apart. My wife will be home when I am at work, but I cannot expect her to stay home all day just because of the dogs. But I don't think the dogs will do well in the midday summer sun. Also, is there plenty of options for ex-pat housing with dogs, and are these places close to a place I can exercise my dogs without a leash?

Doha vets (dohavets.com) has a pet relocation service. They do all the paperwork to bring your babies into Qatar. Most stand-alone villas have a wall around the house with a gate, so that should be a good place for the doggies. In the summer it doesn't cool off too much in the evenings but places to swim are available.

Of course you can bring them. Qatar Living has a group of animal lovers and will give you a lot of info if you go thru that group listings. It will also give you info about pet relocators & QAWS (Qatar Animal Welfare Society)
