Schooling-British system or american system
After a continious discussion I m left a little confused .Which system is better and how both system help in future admission in unversity in US .Most of people suggest its better to go with american school as it prepares you well for university entrances.I have to make a decision for my kid who is secondary level.
If any body children have shifted from British system to American ,it would very helpful if they could let me know how did the shift go ?Was it smooth on child ? I m interested in secondary level .
Also how good is American school in Doha?
Views,Suggestion,advise .....all appreciated .Thanks
The only thing I know about the US education system is that a former colleague of mine who went to Bryn Mawr, which she reckoned was supposed to be a good university, got credits towards her degree for taking an aerobics class!
I couldn't believe it when she told me.
Hey does anyone have the number for Doha Academy? For the wise people I know I can get it from the web but they are having problems with their site. Please don't go to the site. It may have things running in the background.

I have been advised to make this decision now .As my kid is in Grade 8 currently ,and some of educationist i have spoken in present school suggest British system is better even if they have one extra year it makes child specialize in direction .But other suggest if we have make her study in US its better to make this change now as later around grade 10 she may find it difficult to cope up Aerican sys .So really dont know ,we are moving to Doha by end of this month.
I am faced with a similar dilemma. My daughter is a 5th grader currently at a private school in New York City. Prior to that she went to a very good school in England and was far ahead of her classmates when she went to New York.
In my opinion, the American system is better for a general education as the British system starts to specialize at 10th grade and then university entrance is largely determined by success in three or four subjects. Having said that, many of the better British schools are changing to the International Baccalaureate which is more general. If you go that route, it doesn't really matter which system your child goes to. The choice of school is much more important.
I know that Doha Aacademy and DESS are good schools here. I also know from Eviloops and others that AJA is terrible. Here, I think it is the school that is much more important than the system. I don't know what the American school here is like.
