Residence permit, driving license, etc.
I am new to this forum and have read some threads. It’s a very well managed site with a lot of useful information!
Thought I’d introduce myself and ask for some advice as well. I am a Pakistani national, and am a Chartered Accountant by profession. I am married and have two kids. We lived in the UK (South & East) for nearly five years and recently moved back to Pakistan. I got an employment offer in Qatar and this is why I am here - looking for some information about the country, its culture and life style, cost of living, etc. etc.
I managed to find answers to a lot of my questions here, however, here are a couple of points where I needed some more clarification -
(1) Is it possible for me to get a family visa from start? I understand that I could only sponsor my family after receiving a residence permit, which takes about 3 to 4 weeks - correct? Does this mean no family for the first month or so? I would be keen to relocate with my family from start. What are the options, please?
(2) we got a full UK driving license, which is valid till 2016. I understand that this can be exchanged for a Qatari driving license? Is this also correct if we ain’t got the UK passport, or do we have to undertake the lessons and pass the test as well?

Regarding admission thing, it depends on what kind of school u would like ur daughter to admit into. There are uk based schools here as well as paki schools. ofcourse fees for pak schools is much less then the uk ones.
Thanks guys - I will look into the tourist visa arrangement, but I guess my daughter's school admission will be a problem if they don't take any new students after Setpember. Thanks again for all the information!
My dear first you are welcome to Qatar. I think your company can help for this purpose good companies can provide visit visa for your family from begining. If your company does not help better to leave them in Pakistan as long as your R.P. is completed then you can put up application for your family visa and within a week you will get family visa. If you have UK driving licience you will be issued Qatar licience directly on that base. As you are coming as resident for job you should not drive car unless you get Qatar driving licience.

1) You cannot get a family visa from the start. May be you can bring them on a Tourist Visa which can be provided by the 4-5star hotels. Initially for one month and then can be renewed for one more month. You will be provided Temporarily by your company with a hotel arrangement. Once your visa/RP & ID is done then theirs' can be done as next step.
You can request thro. your company. Most of the MNCs (The real MNCs) are obliging the employee request for family tourist visa. It is mandatory that you stay in their hotel for atleast 3-4days. Then you can find your alternate accomodation (or) fully furnished apartments which is cheaper than hotel stay.
Please make sure you get your Degree or the highest educational qualification certificate atteseted by your State government then your Ministry of Foreign (Or) External Affairs (what ever related to Pakistan). Then it should be attested by your Pak. embassy here in Qatar. Then it is attested by the Qatar Ministry of Foreign affairs.
THIS PROCESS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO PROCESS YOUR WORK VISA. OTHERWISE IT WILL BE PROCESSED.
BUT BETTER LEAVE THEM 3-6MONTHS AT HOME COUNTRY IF YOU HAVE SCHOOL GOING CHILDREN. SCHOOLS ADMIT CHILDREN ONLY DURING MARCH-APRIL (OR) SEPT.BATCHES.
2) UK license will be checked and immediately Qatar License will be given. This is done after your RP and ID is issued.
But you can drive the CAR with your UK license for one month after taking a Temp.Driving license from the Traffic Dept.
As long as you drive safely there is no big harm. Most of the people drive like that only. (I am taking about the 33countries' License holders and GCC license holders) if they come on a business/project trips.
