Relocation Companies from the US

I live in Chicago area, the United States. I have been offered a teaching job in Qatar, which includes a fully furnished apartment and a relocation allowance of $3500. I will probably ship only books, computers, clothes, and utensils. I will not ship electronics as I believe the electricity in Qatar has different voltage. Anyone from Chicago or the US had this experience?

1. How much stuff can I ship from the US with a $3500 budget?

2. What companies are available out there to ship items from the US to Doha?

Thanks.

I used Allied from Orlando to Doha. It cost about $4,000 but I shipped quite a bit of things. No large furniture, but some computer desks and a load of electronics including some very large home theater speakers. I pretty much shipped everything personal and books as well as a full kitchen full of stuff. I did insure the shipment quite heavy for the electronics, which added to the cost.

We dealt with some shipping companies from the US. Usually for a container, you pay around 1500 to 2000 $ and they ship your things from chicago to new jersy to Doha port.

a container is way enough for what you need ( it fits 3 cars usually ;) )

i can get you company names: if you want .. pm me tomorrow and i will tell you what companies can help you.
