Question about rents

Smokes
By Smokes

Hi,

Im considering an offer to move to qatar my company does not provide me with a relocation pack so i need to know if the rents are paid early or monthly.
If paid yearly then is out of the question in light of the prices that i see being asked.
Is there serviced furnishied aparts in Doha if so any one know price ranges and contacts?

Thanks
J

I hope they are paying you a very generous salary to move here with no housing provided.

Smoke..i dont know much about visa's/residency..but from my experience i followed my husband 6 moths later for our personal reasons but when i did arrive i got a visa at the airport and then my husbands company proceeded with the family residency. Maybe your company deals with things differently, you should clarify with them...

@smokes, you also do have replies at

@bond, it's incorrect to say that people are 'avoiding'. People are chooing not work in Qatar if the salary is not suitable for them, just as they'd not accept it if it was not suitable in any other country.

We did not want us both to give up our jobs in the UK, so my husband came over first & I followed later. Just in case one of you does not like Qatar best if only you come out at first.

What you can do is, your wife can come for a holiday to see if she likes the place. I came to Doha on 2 occasions both for 2 weeks at a time, before I finally moved here.

Why you say people are avoiding Qatar is it because of the cost of living?

I agree that the rents are very expensive but is there any other reason?

I really appreciate all the comments as looking at the prices kinda scare me LOL

Now i feel better knowing that for 9000 i can find something i do not need 3 bd 2 would be ok.

i would also like to ask did any expats brought their wifes with them or they come latter?

Because my company is saying that my wife cant come with me she will have to come after some visa is done.

We are European and as far as i have understood i don't need to have a visa before arriving to qatar i can just buy one at the airport.

If that is the case why cant my wife come with me stay in a visit visa until my visa is ready and then move her to my visa?

Im living in a three bedroom f/f apartment for 9000..serviced apartments are too expensive, you are better off getting f/f apartment and have someone come and clean your home once or twice a week for roughly 30qr an hour 3 hours twice a week and wont cost as much as s serviced apartment...

the 12.5 K i mentioned is for a 3 bedroom fully furnished serviced apt (u know the one where they come to clean the apt and change the sheets just like in the hotel).this building also has a beautiful lobby and reception (like at hotel) .this is of course on the high end.

it does NOT start at 12,000. You can get a 2 bed room apartment with corniche view for that price.

Nadt is correct at saying 9,000+ for 3bedroom.

You can find 3 bedroom F/F from 9000 onwards, check the classified section here on QL as some agents advertise apartments etc. Most landlords/agents ask for at least 3 months in advance, but most contracts you sign will be for a year...

hi smokes, it all depends on wat the landlord wants we have gone thru them asking for either yearly, 6 mthly, 3 mthly and we finally foundone that was asking for mthly payment but all had to be given in post dated checks all through the contract duration. yes there are service apts and tis furnished as well last time i asked was a 3bedroom fully furnished service apt going for QR12.5K.......hope this helps
