What is the salary range for grade 16 engineer in QP. What kind of allowances QP offer for senior staff, specially housing allowance (amount), as it is more critical, from what I understood from the previous discussions here. I am Canadian with 14 years experience in oil & gas and have professional engineer status.

I searched one of the post on salary ranges but unable to find. I saw few posts on the forum from QP employees. Can any one help

Thanks

I will be moving with my wife and kids(3 years, 18 months and 3 months) very soon and would like some advices regarding the following concerns:I appreciate feedback from those who have been in same situation

1-When does QP starts paying its new employees?

2- How much money can someone envisage before receiving his first wage?

3- Does QP assist with opening a bank account and which bank do you think is good for funds transfer ?

4- What does a new employee receive for his first pay check( ie: basic salary, transport allowance, inducement…), I know I will not receive housing allowance because I will be provided a temporary accommodation.

5- When is a new employee required to join his work place after his arrival.

6- I am thinking of bringing some tapes for kids, do you think I should bring my VCR too. FYI all our tapes are NTSC.

Based on your own experience what other items should a new comer with a family like mine bring with him.

Thank you very much for your time.

Cheers

As is quite evident, Qatar finds no need to have a mix of nationalities for positions such as domestics or labourers. Yes, there are folks employed in these positions in Europe/USA.

If an employer is paying 2 or three times the wage to an European/American to perform the same job as an Asian, its not simple arithmetic, its discrimination. Why is a European worth more? Yes, he won't come to Doha for the same salary as the Asian. So be it. Let him stay put.

Profintakoma: the Salary disparity.

For the Employer it is not called discrimination, it is simple arithmetics. This was discussed over and over again at the previously given link for "salary ranges".

If you pay Westerners, Asian level salaries, they're not gonna come to Doha.

If you pay Asians, Western level salaries, you are overspending by paying people double or triple of what they would have earned in their home countries, given the fact that ALL get equal allowances for local housing.

Canadian786:

For SS definite contracts of 2 years and more, there are no salary reviews, and no housing reviews unless the sh*t hits the fan. People are getting a base allowance + a "supplement", but strangly enough, no one has tried to ask, or received an honest answer of what the contractual definition of "supplement" is. Socially/culturally/or religiously speaking, you do not question the quality nor the quantity of what your "Provider" is offering, that might irritate him. You can try, but you will know in time when the offer has reached the level of "take it or leave it". Job grades, do not mean much for definite contracts, they just affect allowances very slighty, and perks later on, such as business class for leaves, indoor parking, etc.

For SS definite contracts of less than 2 years : QP provides your housing quarters and gives you a car with free petrol/insurance/maintenance. The given reason is that housing leases can only be annual, hence you cannot house yourself for a fraction of the year.

As for SS indefinite contracts: annual salary review is from 5 to 10%, your Manager receives money for 7% average , he will then decide who gets 5% and who gets 10% based on performance. For housing allowance, this year there was an increase of 1000QR, also for nationals who get a housing subsidy.

I think your thoughts have been debated and re-debated many times on this site..Dont you think it is wise for countries to have a work force which is a mix of all nationalities..

From Qatar's perspective, I cannot understand why it makes any difference what is the nationality of the employee. If a Filipino (or Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankan ...) is as capable as a Brit(or European/American/...) in doing a particular job, then what is the logic of paying one half the salary of the other. If the Brit won't come over to Doha for the Filipino's salary, then stop hiring Brits (or Europeans/Americans....). Paying individuals different salaries simply because of differences in race or nationality is racism. Several Arabs have complained on this site how they were victims of racism when they visited Europe/America. Well, the same is going on right here in your land, aided and abetted by your own policies. If the Middle East countries are to take their Islamic values of equality of mankind seriously, it is incumbent upon them to treat individuals with similar qualifications in a similar manner. Obviously, someone who is, say, trained in the US at a top-tier university an IT engineer is not necessarily comparable as someone trained in the Philipines from an unknown school. But, if a white and a non-white both have the comparable education and work experience, I cannot see why one is paid more than the other.

The West has already figured out that Asians are excellent workers -- just look at the massive amounts of outsourcing going on to India and other countries. I cannot see why states such as Qatar are interested in paying such a premium to hire individuals of certain races or nationality when these very nationalities have figured out that they are better off hiring equally competent Asians at a fraction of the wage bill.

Thanks for all the replies and information received. I totally agree with Mudir, CV speaks itself. I hope all this discussion will make my decision easy.

I am in Canada for last 6 years working as Lead Instrumentation Engineer for one of the big EPCM in Alberta. I am originally from indian sub-continet and have never been in middle east.

The position offered is grade 16, definite term contract.

They sent me an offer letter to sign but no terms and condition to sign, just a draft copy which does not mention the housing allowance. Although they told me by email that housing allowance is 10224. What I have heard from few of the rrecent discussions/replies that the Housing allowance is 12000.

Is housing allowance in QP increased recently?.

Also please let me know, how housing allowance increase or decrease work for contract employees. I understand that there will be no salary review during the contract period.

What is typical salary increase per annum in QP for indefinite term employees?

I can be reached directly on email [email protected]

Obviously, if you were born, raised and educated there, you will not be asked that question. Your CV will show your situation.

But if you’ve been there for only 6 months, and you are already packing your bags to go back, then chances are that you are a “pretend Canadian, and even if the question is not asked to every person because this also shows on your CV, then you will not be getting the same salary as a true Canadian would.

Just a little comment on what Moudir has mentioned regarding salaries at QP. During my interview I was not asked how many years I was living in Canada neither where I was originally from.. Information regarding grade 16 I have given above is for indefinite contract. This is what I was offered.

I agree with everything else he said about the subject

Ps: when are mobilizing?

All depends on the type of position offered:

1. if it is a permanent job, i.e. called "indefinite contract" in QP language, then there is a rigid salary range, which i ignore, with yearly salary reviews.

2. if it is a short term job, called "definite contract" in QP language, then the salary range is more open ended, there are no salary reviews during the duration of the contract, and it all depends on your credentials and the job description of course.

Please also refer to http://www.qatarliving.com/qatar-forum/forums/salary-ranges-in-qatar, and read my response dated Sept.9, 2006. Basically your base salary will be more or less close to your home base salary if you're employed, and if you are a "long time" Canadian citizen, and not one of those "pretend" ones who have moved there from the Asian Continent for a few years, with the intention of coming back to the Middle East. QP recruiters have grown smarter now, and one the first questions asked is : " how long have you lived in this country? " Good luck !
