There are plenty of car rental shops along the Salwa road, and a helpful taxidriver should be able to fix you up.
Another issue is that the airport rentals require a credit card. As my bank canceled mine when I left Saudi , this was a problem initially, until i realised that the smaller rental places don't require one. You have to leave your passport as security instead, which may not be convenient if you are processing residence...
If you bring international DL you can rent a car right when you come off the plane for a month. Trust me if you are considering renting until you buy which you will if you haven't already considered it RENT from airport.
I can't think of a bigger regret from a number of my peers. So don't think just do it. RENT from airport.
QNB bank makes it easy to transfer. Its about 10$ to transfer no matter amount.
May I ask another question. Do you recommend any particular bank in Qatar that would allow easy transfer of money to/from the US? Is it common/recommended to have foreign currency account or it doesn't really matter?
You should have no difficulties exchanging your US permit for a local Qatari one. If you intend to travel around the Middle East, Europe or Asia while abroad, you will need to carry an International permit.
