Hi there

Can anyone help us please. Myself, my Husband and our 2 year old daughter are thinking of moving to Qatar, we have been applying for various jobs online for about the last 4 weeks and heard nothing from anyone, we are thinking of coming out on a visitors visa for 30 days and then applying for a permanent one to stay, we are going to try and find work while we are out there. Can anyone point us in the right direction of where we should start. Have any of you done this and how did you start the process as we are new to all this, my Husband is a Transport Manager and I am an Administration/Clerical officer/receptionist.

Please can anyone help as we would like to start this process very soon.

Many thanks

Lynn

use www.bayt.com or www.gulftalent.com  You might want to focus on several countries in the area.  I believe UAE is much easier to start with.  Note that the admin requirements are quite tough and everthing goes very slow. I would certainly not move the familiy in one go since you or your husband needs to have sponsorship first and that process takes 3-4 weeks easily...Thinks twice.

I'm sorry to say your idea is very risky. It is much better for expats to be recruited from their country of origin, this is not the sort of place where you can drop off CVs and expect to gain employment. In fact if you are recruited from here the chance of getting a good package are far worse. Most clerical type positions in most companys tend to go to people from India or the philipines and are low paid in comparison to the UK. I would advise you to search for a job on the internet, gulftalent, bayt and reed are good and secure a full expat package before setting foot on a plane. If you have any specific questions just PM me. Hope this helps

You can come on a visit visa, and do visa runs after it expires if  you don't find work.  You cannot apply for a "permanent" visa - your employer provides the work visa and helps with residency - you can't do that on your own.

It is an expensive place to live if you have no income, you can't rent a "regular" flat as you don't have residency so it would have to be a hotel apartment.  You can drive on your country's driver's license for (I think) 10 days - no longer in a rented car, you can't buy a car and get it registered without residency.

You've only been looking for 4 weeks - that's not a long time in this part of the world.  Keep trying.  If you can afford to, send hubby ahead to try and find something.  If you can't, don't

here's maybe the ideal way forward:1)be brave, let the husband come here alone on a visit, test the waters and try to sort himself out first.2)once done, he can apply for a family visa, get you guys in and then you too can get work while being sponsored by your husband.3)it's best for him to come alone first since it's less hectic than looking for a job in 30 days (too short a period at the best of times) in a new country with a 2 year old tugging at your sleeves.4)i've been in the UK for my PG and grown up in Qatar and things work very differently in the two places. Doesn't mean either is bad. Just fyi. I would say being from the UK (not as bad a situation as some Brits think it is:-)) would work to your advantage here to some extent since the Gulf thinks you and the Americans know your stuff even if you don't haha. 5) so yeah think it over, send him out to check things out and god willing; it will work out for you guys. and once you're here, i think you'll love it here: all the sun you never had; all the tax you ever paid; it'll be a bad memory haha..not being patronizing here..just having a laugh with you having seen how much you hate the rain and snow which i love to bits because i've grown up in all the sunshine i never needed haha..best of luck:-)

let your husband make a visit for a month and see the market situation..        later on you can shift.....its not easy to get a grip so fast here..visit naukrigulf.com , gulftalent.com and bayt.com..

Dear Lynn,

I totally disagree with that idea. To work in Qatar is not easy. If you are working, you need Working visa. Working Visa need sponsorship from employer..Visit visa also need sponsorship..Even to apply for the permanent visa is not easy as you think.

I've been in Qatar about 3 years, and I can sure that is not a correct move if you want to work here. The best move is find the job first either recommended by your friend to their employer or by advertisement.

(Qatar only let you to stay and working here ONLY IF they really need you)

That's a great risk to take, even if you would be able to find a way to get a visa. There is no guarantee that someone will offer you a job within 30 days once you are all here.

Have you tried applying at www.bayt.com and www.gulftalent.com?

The job market is tough these days, so you really have to be patient. Keep applying and don't be discouraged.

i am new in qtar , but a regular reader of gulftimes classifieds for suitable job post. i cudnt spot frequent openings for "transport manager" but admin/recep hve good scope here. but you cn get a permanent visa only if ur husbnd gets a placement (i think so) .

And i feel 30 days is too short span of time.
