I'm curious to see some photos of the types of homes/villas that are available for lease. . .and their corresponding prices. Are there ane real estate websites that have photos as well?

TIA!

I don't even know them.  I simply did a google search of QIPCO compound and came up with this blog.   They do look nice.    That compound if 1/2 Exxonmobil 1/2 Shell people.   The villas are all paid by company.   Don't know the exact price, but I am sure it is more than 20,000QR per month.

Hi deedee,

Nice family  you have!!

Can you share what's the price of this kind of villa  (either paid by yourself or direct by the company... doesn't matter in this context) ?

Real estate taxes in Texas are quite high as well.

And yeah, in the loop is not like in the far suburbs so I see your point about relative value.

I'll suggest you consider the impact that "no more real esate taxes" will have on the overall equation with the employer.

I'll also suggest you see my thread on cost of living section. I am from Calgary, Canada and the budget has been prepared and vetted with people on this form.

are picked up at the airport and taken directly to their accomodation.  Sometimes you are in a temporary place for a couple weeks until your place is ready.  You will be told where you will live.   You will not be given a choice.   Believe me, even if you don't think it's the greatest (compared to Texas it won't be)  it will be better than 99% of the population's.  You have to look at the glass half full and appreciate all the other amazing opportunites you will have living here.

I have two young children and opted not to live in a compound and don't regret it for a moment!

We have a beautiful large detached villa with lovely big garden and private swimming pool, the area is safe and there are lots of kids around playing in the streets just like in a compound only with a much nicer house, space etc and we didn't pay much more than what they are charging for most compound houses which don't compare at all in size and finishings etc.

You should try west bay lagoon not a compound but in between.

It's a lengthy process finding a home especially in the top compounds but I guess if your company has connections  that might help. I would also decide where your kids will be going to school before you make your decision as traffic is so bad here that it makes life soooo much easier being close to where they are!

Al Jazi Gardens

QIPCO

JBII

Al Malki (EM trying to leave this compound however)

single status or those with 1 baby or so live in ASAS Towers (high rise)

EM has the best benefits by far of any company here in Qatar.   Your housing assignment will depend on 1.   How many kids you have  2.  Your husband's level in the company.  They do not hold spots for preschool.

My villa here in Qatar is actually larger than 3500 sq ft.   It is very nice.   But no storage, small yard etc.   Compound living is great as there are a lot of children/activities for little ones to do.   Instant friends for the parents as well.    My standard of living is better here due to cheap labor  ( I can have a maid and a driver if I want).

also go to

click on photo albums  then scroll down to qipco compound

lots of fabulous pictures of the compound

Try this site:

Expat Sueno, I dont at all like the sounds of "paying the difference". NOt if you're from Houston where 3500 squre feet can be had for around 300-350K USD (or much less). The quality of real estate in Texas is excellent. Your home is probably of great quality, who knows I'm only guessing.

I have done a TON of research on the real estate in Doha, and I cannot see how you would get even CLOSE without paying around 25K QAR per month. At 3.65, that is $6849. Surely your mortgage in Houston is not that high!!??

My suggestion: insist on company provided housing without any gimmicks or you may get caught in a trap!
